Job Description

:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1.

Good communications and customer service skills.

Communicates effectively with patients and other staff.

  • Visible to all patients in waiting area while calling patients to exam room.
  • Identifies self by name and department when answering the phone.
  • Notifies patient of office delays and checks on patients in exam rooms every 10-15 minutes during office delays.
  • Voice tone is professional and courteous at all times.

2.

Maintains all patient information with strict confidentially.

  • Conducts all verbal communications regarding patient care in a private area.
  • Information on charts not exposed to public view.
  • Demonstrates ability to accurately convey explanations as necessary of lab and x-ray preparation.
  • All chart list are maintained (covered or turned) so that patient information can’t be read.
  • Appropriately disposes of all confidential patient information.

3.

PATIENT CARE FUNCTIONS

  • Collects, labels and routes specimens.
  • Cross-trains in other departments as time permits.
  • Obtains and records pain scale on each clinic visit. (excluding injections only visits and visits to receive test results)
  • Obtains weight and record in chart on each clinic visit.
  • Accurately records vital signs.
  • Maintains up to date BCLS certificate.
  • All patients’ messages are addressed before the end of office hours daily.
  • Accurately completes request for procedures to be completed in other areas such as Lab, X-ray, EKG, etc.
  • Dictates patient notes in Medical record according to protocol.
  • Performs other duties as assigned based on clinical department within scope of practice
  • Obtain height and record in chart on yearly in primary care areas.
  • All allergies are verified on the front of the charts at each visit.
  • Obtains adult blood pressure on each clinic visit.

4.

Provides a safe and clean environment for patient care in the clinic setting.

  • Follows hand-washing protocol.
  • Utilizes Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriately
  • All items are checked monthly for expiration dates
  • Applies removes and disposal of non-sterile gloves according to Protocol.
  • Sharps containers are maintained at a safe level.
  • All solutions in secondary containers are labeled with a pre-printed information label.
  • All dirty linen are placed in the appropriate receptacle and emptied in the appropriate location daily.
  • Flat surfaces are cleaned at the end of office daily.
  • Only items contaminated with blood or body fluids are disposed in Hazardous Waste containers labeled Bio-Hazard.
  • Checks refrigerator temps and records the temperatures daily according to Baptist Health Associates Policy and Procedure
  • Exam rooms are neat and uncluttered.
  • Exam rooms are stocked with necessary supplies and are re-ordered weekly to maintain minimal amount of supplies.

5.

Medication/Solutions are stored according to Policy

  • Assures all sample drugs are stored and dispensed according to Policy and Procedure
  • Any injectable drugs in a multi-dose vial will be dated and initialed upon opening and discarded 28 days from the date opened.
