Medical Assistant, Perinatal Center


Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift


This position is for a Medical Assistant at a High Risk OB office with high patient volume. Daily responsibilities include basic MA procedures with patients including weights, vitals, injections, venipunctures, other labs, stocking and cleaning exam rooms. Also includes charting in EMR, assisting physicians and practitioners with patient exams. Position location Fort Sanders Perinatal Center on Fort Sanders Regional Campus.Fort Sanders Perinatal Center has served women in East Tennessee for more than 20 years, delivering more than 20,000 babies. Our main office is located at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. We have additional offices in Morristown and Sevierville in order to conveniently provide elite high risk pregnancy care throughout the region. Position Summary Under general supervision, performs basic nursing procedures on patients. Assists physicians or practitioner with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.

  • Assists with cleaning instruments and cleaning and re-stocking examination rooms on a daily basis. Transports instruments to sterile processing as needed.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, Quality Assessment program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Performs basic nursing procedures such as weighing patients, taking vital signs and listening to fetal heart tones. Performs venipunctures, blood sugars, and other lab procedures as indicated.
  • Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and necessary equipment.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Obtains informed consent after procedure has been explained to patient.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families during visit; demonstrates sensitivity to patient's comfort and privacy.
  • Demonstrates competence in performing critical skills to include appropriate delivery of care according to age-specific needs of the population served.
  • Retrieves initial basic evaluation of patient and reports to appropriate practitioner.
  • Inspects area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations and standards and takes corrective action when appropriate.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient's medical records. Maintains all required reports, statistics, etc. Assists with filling out lab requests and filing lab results in patient's chart.
  • Assists physicians or practitioner with examinations, various OB/GYN procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings and workshops.


Minimum Education None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.


Minimum Experience One (1) year related experience required, or new graduate with less than (1) year experience.


Licensure Requirement Certified Medical Assistant required. CPR required.
