Overview of the position:

The Mechanical Engineer must be a highly motivated, hands-on, self-driven team player that has the ability to perform in a dynamic prototyping environment. The preferred candidate will be able to bring a fresh perspective to the design team and have a strong desire for innovation. The preferred candidate will be a Mechanical Engineer with a broad technical knowledge base to support the development and design of all facets of the flight simulator platform. The Mechanical Engineer reports to the Manager of Hardware Engineering.

Day-to-day responsibilities:

• Opportunity to perform design engineering of new parts, assembly and installations as required (not the primary role)
• Alters and/or modify designs to meet specified functional and operational performance requirements
• Edit and update component parts, assemblies, and production drawings in 3D Solidworks CAD software
• Review, evaluate and edit new component, assembly, and installation drawings and CAD models for accuracy, consistency, manufacturability, and interference

Requirements:

• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
• Ability to work on multiple projects at once
• Design for Manufacturing best practices including material selection, production processes, quality control, material costs and techniques for maximizing the manufacture and distribution of goods
• Exceptional written and verbal communication
• Minimum 10 years of diverse mechanical design engineering experience required
• High degree of mechanical aptitude with ability to understand complex machinery both from a theoretical and practical standpoint
• Able to quickly adapt to change
• Must have experience with detailed mechanical mechanism design including specifying bearings, gears, pullies, press fits, tolerancing, motors, couplings, and fasteners
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
• Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Must be familiar with drawing standards, GD&T and tolerance stack analysis
• Must have extensive, diverse design experience with large assemblies, machine design, electro-mechanical mechanism design, electrical packaging design and be very proficient designing sheet metal, machined and weldment parts, assemblies and installations
• Must have expert level solidworks 3D CAD and 2D drawing experience. Must have used Solidworks regularly within the last year and must be proficient
