Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Manager, NSSS Systems Analysis, the person in this role applies technical knowledge, insight, reasoning, and decision making to perform analyses of the fluid systems within the NuScale Power Plant nuclear steam supply system (NSSS) to support advancement of the design. They will utilize a strong analytical background, and prior experience with transient analysis and flow induced vibration in collaboration with the rest of the team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Self-manages workload and deadlines
  • Mentors and trains other engineers in sound approaches and standards for solving problems in technical areas of expertise.
  • Leads co-workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems.
  • Develops component vibration testing strategies, selects instrumentation, provides technical oversight of test programs, and performs test data analysis.
  • Uses software and engineering tools to perform flow-induced vibration analyses on NSSS components.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • Computer programming skills (e.g. Python, Matlab)
  • Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical) is required. A registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineering license (P.E.) is desired. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Analysis of components for flow-induced vibration mechanisms.
  • Experience: A minimum of 10+ years of full-time working experience as a thermal-hydraulic engineer is required. Must demonstrate excellent technical writing capabilities as well as good communication, computer, presentation and interpersonal skills. Must be well organized with the ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases. Additional experience in the following areas is desired:
    • Analysis of components for flow-induced vibration mechanisms.
    • Experience with vibration or modal testing, instrumentation selection, and vibration or modal data analysis.
    • Use of software: ANSYS (Mechanical or CFD), plus normal office software
    • Computer programming skills (e.g. Python, Matlab)

Pay and Benefits:

The target pay range for this position is $132,815 - $146,795 annually. The full pay range is $109,048 - $170,562 annually.

At NuScale, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, full-time working experience, education and training, equity within the department.
