Tesla is looking to hire a Mechanical Design Engineer to design and deploy specialized development equipment for our cutting-edge vehicle battery products. This position will help drive technological advancement in this area while working closely with cross-functional teams. Battery development is at the heart of our company, and this is an exciting opportunity to work directly on the central challenges with electric vehicles – battery cost and performance. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work with a highly motivated team on extremely challenging projects.

Expected Compensation
$80,000 - $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. What You’ll Do
- Contribute to the evolution of battery machine development and design
- Work with internal and external partners to successfully execute projects
- Support expansion and continuous improvement of the battery manufacturing development lab in collaboration with a team of engineers and technicians
- Perform proof-of-concept to green light new and novel methods, technologies, and suppliers
- Design, procure and integrate tooling and equipment to accelerate battery manufacturing development
- Evolve standards and support downstream factory process launch and improvement projects
- Experience generating electrical and pneumatic schematics a plus (AutoCAD or E-Plan preferred)
- Demonstrated experience in electromechanical design and analysis of tooling, equipment, and automation
- 3+ years of engineering or equivalent relevant experience
- Familiarity with equipment safety standards and practices (ANSI, NFPA, LOTO, OSHA)
- Proficiency in 3D and 2D CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD preferred)
- Familiarity with international technical standards for machine design
- Familiarity with industrial controls and integration a plus (PLC/HMI)
- Broad experience with prototyping and fabrication methods
- BS, MS, and/or PhD in Engineering, Physics, Material Science or equivalent
- Project management experience
- Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
