Math Tutor Jobs

A Place Called Home is a dynamic, non-profit youth and community center in South Central Los Angeles. APCH provides educational programs, counseling, mentoring, music, dance and art classes, fitness, and health and wellness opportunities. As youth participate in our programs, they discover interests and talents and develop a better sense of themselves and their place in the world around them. Our goal is to increase the likelihood that youth will stay in school, pursue higher education, attain viable jobs, and become active community members capable of making positive changes in the world in which they live.

Summary

The Math Tutor will provide tutoring services to high school youth in math. The tutor must have some experience with Advanced Placement exams in these subjects.

• Provide homework assistance for Enrolled Homework members and maintain accurate tutoring records
• Communicate with staff instructors and Education Services Assistant Manager for High School to identify and best meet the academic and/or learning needs of each member
• Help to develop or maintain essential academic skills such as learning techniques, positive study habits, and study skills with individuals and in the classroom
• Conduct one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions for teen members and entry-level college students

Rate: $35-$45 per session

Conduct sessions onsite at least twice per week

Contract Start August 2023

Independent Contractors are not eligible for benefits

Education & Experience

• Experience teaching/working at a community/youth center or educational environment
• 1 Year experience
• Must be in business for themselves, engaged in an independently established trade, occupation, or business of the same nature as the work of a Math tutor.
• Math related degree or college student pursuing a math degree or related field

The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, enjoys working with teens, has a positive attitude and mission oriented.
