Job Description

Position Title: Certified Tutor
Department: School

Reports To: School Principal
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt



SUMMARY:
Provides individual and small group tutoring sessions in English Language Arts and/or math.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates regularly with administration and teachers to assess the students’ needs and how best to address them.
  • Evaluates pupils’ academic growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Principal.
  • Utilizes effective instructional strategies to maximize the students’’ potential for academic progress.
  • Engages students in academic activities either in one-on-one or small group settings.
  • Communicates progress regularly with administration, teachers, and parents.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid SC Teaching License

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises assigned student

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures and instructional manuals. Ability to provide instruction to students through explanation, demonstration and/or supervised practice.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and in the display and interpretation of data. Ability to apply basic concepts of statistical analysis, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work related issues and problems. Ability to supervise students and maintain order in various classroom and instructional activities and situations. Recognizes and follows the appropriate procedures in the “chain of command” as designated by board policies and/or administrative procedures.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Ability to operate a personal computer and related software. Knowledge in the methods for developing lesson plans and materials, and classroom activities which stimulate learning. Knowledge of the materials and information which must be prepared for classroom instructional activities.

Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and administration. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with a high level of detail and accuracy. Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually and with members of a group. Passion for helping students learn and have the knowledge and skills to help student find new ways to look at difficult skills and concepts they do not understand.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Weekly and Total Number of Hours Determined by the Principal
Position not on the salary schedule: $30.00 per hour (pending available funds)

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.

EVALUATION:
Performance of this job evaluated annually according to Board Policy.
