POSITION SUMMARY


Each Materials Technician contributes to the efficient operation of the facility by ordering parts, monitoring parts inventory, maintaining adequate stock and keeping tools organized, clean and in good working order. In addition, the employee contributes to the success of Tabitha through ongoing collaboration with, coworkers, management, volunteers and others in the organization.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Uses logic, organization and various clerical skills to manage purchase orders, supply data forms, other department forms and processes. Implements organized/efficient processes so that information is readily available when needed.
  • Follows department protocol for submission of completed documentation, with particular attention to accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepares purchasing reports as needed for department managers.
  • Consistently uses strength, dexterity, agility and good body mechanics when performing essential functions. Follows appropriate safety and infection control policies and procedures of Tabitha and/or community and regulatory agencies.
  • Uses mathematical and organizational skills to perform an accurate monthly inventory count of all materials.
  • Performs work duties within the assigned work environment related to the position, as assigned by Tabitha, regardless of employee preference.
  • Willingly completes other duties as assigned.
  • Willingly assists with the orientation and training of new employees.
  • Provides computer documentation and is proficient with Excel, Word and Tabitha’s In-House Material Management Software.
  • Acts with integrity and in the best interest of Tabitha. Business relationships are conducted in the best interest of Tabitha, free of gifts, cash inducements, gratuities, favors, or other perceived improper inducements.
  • Provides maintenance support to our regional nursing offices in York, Nebraska City and Grand Island.
  • Maintains courteous relationship with supervisors, co-workers, elders/clients, family members, loved ones, members of other departments and volunteers, providing support and assistance to co-workers to ensure quality elder/client care. Volunteers to assist others and seeks opportunities to serve elders/clients/loved ones/coworkers/Tabitha.
  • Prioritizes workload, making adjustments throughout shift to meet frequently changing departmental needs. Willingly takes on additional duties during times of peak workload.
  • Utilizes on-line purchasing methods, coordinating with vendors on consigned inventory.
  • Suggests improvements to processes.
  • Complies with Tabitha policies and procedures as published by Tabitha and which may be modified at Tabitha’s discretion. Contributes to quality assurance and performance improvement activities by identifying instances of non-compliance and taking appropriate action, including reporting violations of Tabitha policy or regulations as appropriate.
  • Participates in meetings and in-services on both department and company levels.
  • Considers all factors and takes appropriate action, making good decisions that contribute to the success of the department.
  • Delivers and monitors satellite inventory locations in Crete and South Lincoln.
  • Drives Tabitha vehicle to various vendors to obtain supplies.
  • Performs “on-call” duties as scheduled by supervisor. Such duties include, but are not limited to, answering all emergency calls to switchboard operator, performing daily equipment checks and providing emergency repairs as needed.
  • Reports all broken and malfunctioning equipment immediately. Follows disaster plans and uses strength and agility during participation in preparedness drills and actual emergencies. Maintains a neat and orderly work environment. Maintains a neat orderly work environment.
  • Maintains a good record of attendance and punctuality as defined by Tabitha’s policy pertaining to attendance and punctuality. Records all time worked accurately and consistently using the timekeeping method provided by Tabitha.
  • Receives parts, stocks and restocks materials promptly in an organized fashion. Identifies shortages and notifies appropriate parties of late deliveries.
  • Uses departmental processes to order parts at the request of Maintenance Technicians and/or supervisor.
  • Communicates effectively with supervisor and staff regarding known delays to ensure efficient service is provided to the satisfaction of all concerned.
  • Coordinates with vendors on stocking levels, consigned inventory and recurring stocking.
  • Analyzes and prepares Request for Proposals as needed with major stock purposes.
  • Uses strength, flexibility and dexterity to remove snow from walks, driveways and parking areas using snow removal equipment to prevent ice buildup and provide access to campus.
  • Uses strength, dexterity, flexibility and organizational skills to maintain a clean and orderly parts room.
  • Moves about the work area continually, using strength, flexibility and dexterity to provide daily routine maintenance such as furniture moving, minor plumbing repairs, minor electrical repairs and furniture repairs. Frequently reaching, stooping, bending, twisting, and assuming awkward positions to complete repairs, including those that are difficult to reach such as under, above, between or behind furniture and equipment.
  • Works independently and collaboratively, especially focusing on problem solving.
  • Researches pricing for parts as needed for bidding process.
  • Completes required training and in-services promptly. Demonstrates understanding of the course content and implements training in daily activities.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations regarding privacy by insuring that Protected Health Information (PHI) is safeguarded at all times. In addition, maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding any matter pertaining to any Tabitha elders/clients.
  • Reliably works scheduled weekends and holidays.

COMMUNICATION Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the English language including instructions and labels. Sufficient fluency to be able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, provide instruction to others, read and understand labels, read warning signs and/or labels, instructions, policies, procedures or other similar documentation, hold a conversation, participate in meetings, prepare legible, accurate and thorough documentation as required by the job and interact with coworkers and managers effectively. Ability to recognize and interpret non-verbal cues. Ability to respond calmly and clearly to emergencies, heavy workloads and changes in priorities.
WORKSITE CONDITIONS Works indoors in a facility maintained by Tabitha that will typically be in good repair, clean, well ventilated and well lit. Frequent exposure to heat, steam, sharp objects and tools, heavy objects, electricity, hot pipes, soldering equipment, cleaning products, chemicals (including hazardous chemicals), wet or slippery floors and loud and/or continual noise. Occasional exposure to blood or body fluids including urine and feces. Works under daily and hourly deadlines, requiring uninterrupted periods of intense activity. Frequent exposure to elders, including exposure to elders who are experiencing extremes of emotion. Works beyond normal scheduled hours and on weekends and holidays when assigned. Is subject to extended hours, evening work shift availability or callback during emergency conditions or based upon needs of the organization.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to gain access to the work area and then safely perform the duties of the job while utilizing standard and specialized equipment, including but not limited to the equipment described below. Physical stamina with the ability to perform duties while moving about the work area for the entire shift with few opportunities to sit down and with little or no break between tasks. Strength and stamina sufficient to frequently and continuously lift, push, pull, reach, squat, kneel, bend, carry, twist, pinch, grasp, climb stairs and ladders while carrying supplies, assume and maintain awkward positions while performing duties (such as working to repair an item that is over, under or behind furniture or moving equipment and supplies from place to place) and manipulating various supplies and equipment. Frequent periods of intense activity. Vision within normal limits (with or without correction). Must have unrestricted lift/push/pull ability and pass a 75 - pound physical exam demonstrating strength and agility prior to employment and from time to time thereafter at Tabitha’s discretion.
OTHER SKILLS Mathematical skills sufficient to count parts and perform addition, subtraction, organizational skills.
EQUIPMENT USAGE Standard and specialized equipment including but not limited to calculator, power tools, manual tools, pager, snowblower, vehicle, soldering equipment, telephone and computer.
AGE REQUIREMENT At least age 18.
EDUCATION High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
EXPERIENCE One year experience in parts distribution required.
LICENSURE Valid Nebraska Driver’s license (unless otherwise allowed by law) and a good driving record required.
Must possess auto insurance at or above Nebraska statutory requirements.
