Job Description
Position Summary


Established by the Indiana Constitution, the Marion County Clerk is the custodian of all court records, issues marriage licenses, and serves as the court’s fiscal agent and trustee of child support payments. The Election Board receives nominations and petitions for elections, as well prepares ballots, and maintains voting machines by cultivating a productive, collaborative, and compliant work environment for our workforce to meet the needs of the residents of Indianapolis and Marion County.


Incumbent in this position is responsible for a variety of clerical functions in the case management system. Incumbent will greet and provide customer service via mail, telephone and in person. Incumbent will follow established policies and procedures which controls most of their actions. Very limited independent judgment is utilized.

Position Responsibilities


  • Knowledge of the procedures of a legal case from opening to closing, such as the documentation that needs to be prepared and handled, the people involved in different stages of the case.
  • Ensure you are properly informed of the legal regulations that govern a specific activity and adhere to rules, policies and laws.
  • Records and processes payments for court fees and fines.
  • Send summons and notifications for legal proceedings.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests for information from other agencies and members of the public.
  • Compile and collect documents from a specific case in order to comply with legal regulations and ensuring records are maintained.
  • Knowledge of and observation of the set of rules establishing the nondisclosure of information except to another authorized person.


Qualifications


High School diploma or equivalent. Must be able to communicate effectively orally, verbally, and in written formats. Attention to detail is a priority. Requires great customer service skills and ability to promote teamwork and build effective relationships.


Preferred Job Requirements And Qualifications


Clerical experience in a court or similar legal setting.
