Job Description

Responsibilities


Basic Purpose

Provides overall direction, leadership, and project management on company-wide system mapping automation and technology development. Manages the day-to-day operations of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS), mapping, and asset data management services. Manages the full suite of information including the distribution model from substation feeder breaker to customer meter, transmission lines, and telecommunications systems. Establishes and implements business objectives and strategies to meet company objectives. Implements and supports Company programs and policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Champions regional process improvement initiatives that lead to regional consistency and best practice performance. Facilitate benchmarking activity to evaluate other electric utilities effectiveness against best practice standards and techniques.
  • Monitors and enforces all compliance requirements for area of responsibility.
  • Manages data to and from multiple sources including the Distribution Management System and enterprise tools including Maximo. Delivers a consistent and focused leadership in improving GIS data quality on the electric and gas distribution and electric transmission facilities and asset management systems. Develops and maintains data health checkups to keep accurate GIS and asset data.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Assesses employee performance and identifies training and development opportunities for sustained growth. Develops and implements employee performance improvement and career planning actions.
  • Develops and manages an accurate annual operating budget. Controls financial and budgetary activities and directs operations within budget.
  • Oversees development or implementation of systems, programs, or processes that will improve efficiency of office and field employees that use and rely on the data.
  • Establishes specific project goals, objectives, and milestones for the Mapping staff. Monitors and ensures the timely delivery and quality of all system mapping objectives.
  • Provides support for PUCN compliance audit, rate case, and data docket activities.
  • Directs the company’s GIS and mapping services department as well as company efforts to develop and implement GIS and mapping systems to improve work processes, efficiency, and data integrity.
  • Provides plans, processes, targets and implementation and feedback mechanisms or tools for establishing best practice operations and maintenance.
  • Works collaboratively with other departments to develop information technology solutions to support Transmission and Distribution Operations, engineering, and asset management.
  • Develops innovative and forward-looking techniques to manage NV Energy’s GIS and Asset Data Management. Leads and contributes to cross business unit project teams and participates in information technology and other improvements that benefit Transmission and Distribution Operations, new business, work and asset management efforts, system control, engineering, and Customer Service.
  • Responsible for organizing the department consistently with short-term and long-term tactical and strategic objectives.
  • Coordinates with other internal business unit areas to propose and implement process improvements.
  • Develops proficiency in leadership skills with management and bargaining unit employees.
  • Evaluates current business processes and systems to improve internal operations wherever possible. Encourages staff to seek out business process external to the organization where technology solutions will improve business operations.
  • Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to position and company.
  • Participates in and provides necessary support in delivering special projects including Electrification, Transmission interconnections, Wildfire Mitigation, and alternative energy projects.

Requirements


Essential Education, Skills, and Environment

Education and Work Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited school in engineering, computer science, geographic information systems (GIS) or a related field and five years of related GIS and mapping, electric distribution, project management, or related experience.

Candidates that do not possess a bachelor’s degree must have a minimum of 9 years of related work experience.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills Demonstrated knowledge of:

  • Utility industry, applicable company policies, procedures, practices, and understanding of applicable federal, state and local laws.
  • ESRI GIS server or ESRI ArcGIS Online Platform, ESRI ArcGis Pro, Autodesk AutoCAD, electrical one lines, schematics and panel schedules.

Demonstrated skills such as:

  • Ability to effectively implement operating procedures and analyze system performance.
  • Ability to negotiate with and influence peers and senior officers on policy and operational issues.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

General office environment. No special physical demands required.

Compensation


Annual Salary: $113,100.00 (Min) to $133,000.00 (Mid); Up to 15% Short Term Incentive Plan target opportunity at the discretion of the company. This is a non-represented position.
