Position Details


Salary scale shown is minimum pay rate and the maximum pay rate including highest longevity pay, applicable only after 20 years of service.


The staff hired into this position will be brought in at Step 1 of the 6-step scale, which is $4,665.38/month (~$26.92/hour).


This position is represented by Teamsters Local Union No. 117, and the current Collective Bargaining Agreement is effective 1/1/23 - 12/31/25.


The following future pay increases have been negotiated:


September 1, 2023: 3% increase


January 1, 2024: 3% increase


January 1, 2025: 3% increase


This job announcement is open continuously and will generate an eligibility list to fill current and future vacancies throughout 2023 in our Parks divisions: Parks Maintenance, Cemetery Maintenance, Golf Course Maintenance.


Selection Process
Interested individuals should

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to take an in-person assessment test (Mechanical Aptitude Test, 1.5 hours). Applicants must receive a passing score to be placed on the eligibility list for interview and hiring consideration. The eligibility list established for this position is generally good for 6 months. Applicants with a passing score will be invited to come in for a practical testing and interview. Primary Duties
This position requires performing general labor and semi-skilled manual work in the maintenance and repair of City facilities, parks, and equipment. This involves a variety of tasks which may subject the employee to heavy lifting and strenuous physical activity.
Employees are expected to perform all of the duties of the Maintenance Worker I class as assigned. The list below is not meant to be all inclusive, and the full job description can be viewed here. Staff will have more detailed descriptions for each of the divisions to review when attending the mechanical aptitude test.
Some primary duties include:
  • Operating and/or driving various equipment and machinery including but not limited to: pickups, one-yard loaders or less, tractors and implements, sign truck, jack-hammers, air compressors, concrete saws, chains saws, all mowers except tractor mowers used to cut rights-of-way, blowers, leaf machines, hand equipment, chippers, small power equipment, generators, sprayers and spreaders, and forklifts.
  • Correctly and safely operating all equipment and tools used in assigned division.
  • Installing, operating and maintaining irrigation systems. Setting up athletic fields; measuring distance using a tape measure or calibrated instrument.
  • Planting turf, trees and shrubs; seeding lawns; pruning trees and shrubs; performing various landscaping work; raking and blowing leaves; safely mixing and/or applying pesticides, herbicides and other chemicals to grounds and landscape.
  • Performing semi-skilled and general labor work in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, painting, concrete work, welding, and general maintenance and construction work.
  • Interacting courteously with other employees, customers, vendors, and members of the public.
Minimum Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who have:
  • One (1) year of full-time, paid related work experience; AND
  • If necessary for assigned work, an employee will be required to obtain and maintain a Public Pesticide Operator's license, DSHS Water Supply Certification, First Aid Certification, Flagging Certification, Forklift Certification and/or Defensive Driving Certification, or other required certification or license.
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent; AND
  • A valid driver's license without impending loss at time of appointment.
