Opportunity Summary

The Maintenance Technician installs, troubleshoots, and repairs mechanical equipment, piping, valves, and machinery of a combined cycle power plant. This equipment includes but is not limited to the gas and steam turbines, generators, heat recovery steam generator, air compressors, water treatment equipment, demineralizers, motors, pumps, and other auxiliary equipment.

Here's a look at some of the work you'll be performing:

• Responsible for efficient management of the warehouse with Maintenance Manager
• Diagnose and repair the cause of mechanical equipment malfunctions such as pumps, valves, fans, piping, structures, tools, etc. Review oil analysis and vibration data and alert manager of out of limit trends
• Cooperate and participate as a team member
• Maintain the cleanliness of designated areas
• Read meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, vibration of equipment, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid flows and levels control
• Work with outside mechanical service providers during large outages and perform the project management duties, including daily scope tracking, work scope change order tracking, schedule tracking and other tasks associated with successful outage management
• Properly use mechanical testing equipment and other similar tools
• Repair, replace, dismantle and examine defective parts along with lubricating and cleaning parts
• Initiate purchase orders, coordinate with and direct outside contractors as required to ensure completion of position responsibilities
• Perform (with assistance as needed) the maintenance of equipment by cleaning, adjusting, tightening, performing preventative maintenance or corrective maintenance and identifying equipment in need of corrective maintenance. Write, submit and clear corrective work orders for approval.
• Demonstrate diligence in documenting spare parts usage and re-ordering
• May be required to operate a forklift and similar equipment
• Visually inspect and listen to equipment to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication
• Perform capital project and/or major program responsibilities as assigned by the Maintenance Manager
• Use facility operating procedures and equipment technical manuals to maintain and repair facility equipment and ensure equipment is operated within operating range
• Work as a mentor and trainer for other Mechanical Technicians as required
• Diagnose cause of mechanical and operational malfunction or failure of equipment
• Install new mechanical equipment as required
• Keep Operations and Maintenance Managers fully informed of unusual conditions and current job progress as the job relates to facility operations
• Fully support the use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) by displaying a proficiency in using the system and dedication to the facility maintenance philosophy. Perform CMMS data entry and work order close-out in a thorough and timely fashion.
• Read, understand and comply with all regulatory and facility safety procedures

Working Relationships

The Mechanical Technician reports to the Maintenance Manager and responds to direction from the Plant Manager in the absence of the Maintenance Manager. The Mechanical Technician works in cooperation with the operations personnel on matters pertaining to the daily operation of the plant.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.

Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions.

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Work Schedule

This position offers a regularly scheduled Monday to Friday work week with an 8-hour day shift with the possibility of weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.

Compensation

The initial hourly rate of pay will range from $35.78 to $48.22.

Job Qualifications

• Ability to work well with others and be self-directed, as well as apply creative solutions to unique problems is desirable
• Proficiency in completely overhauling valves, pumps, compressors and other common mechanical equipment as needed is essential
• Prefer five years’ experience as a power plant mechanic, millwright or equivalent
• Ability to use basic hand tools, portable electric and pneumatic tools, and basic rigging equipment such as winches, hoists and slings
• Ability to locate, troubleshoot and adjust defects in mechanical equipment and/or maintain
• Valid driver's license required
• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school
