MAINTENANCE MECHANIC 2

Position Purpose
Perform skilled work in the operation, maintenance and repair of the Department’s residential facilities, grounds, and equipment. Provide direct customer service to the Department’s residential customers.

Description of Duties

  • Coordinate services with Residential Services office staff and other units, including Campus Facilities Services.
  • Use a computerized work management system and mobile devices.
  • Perform general and preventative maintenance, repair and replacement of plumbing fixtures, lighting fixtures, floors, windows, doors, countertops, cabinetry, and appliances in the Department’s residential facilities.
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • Operate hand and power tools in a skilled manner.
  • May lead or instruct helpers or other maintenance workers as required.
  • Perform general maintenance and repair as scheduled to prepare apartments for occupancy.
  • Drive service truck as required; load and unload materials and supplies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as journey-level skilled trades worker; OR full journey-level status; OR four years’ applicable work experience. Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in a multi-tenant residential or university environment
  • Experience and references that demonstrate ability to:
  • Experience working directly with customers or clients
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel

o Read, write and communicate verbal and written instructions in English
o Work with a diverse workgroup
o Coordinate work effectively with other trades
o Work under general supervision where work is carried out independently and evaluated on results achieved
o Willingness to work any shift
o Achieve success with minimal supervision
o Ability to use the Internet, email and basic computer applications

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • A satisfactory outcome from the employment verification and reference check processes.
  • Possession of a valid State of Washington Driver’s License. (The Maintenance Mechanic 2 will need to be able to drive a UW vehicle and deliver supplies as needed.)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $4,227.00 - $5,612.00 per month
