As a Machine Shop Manager at our Amesbury, MA, USA location your daily tasks will include:
  • Communicate cross-functionally with factory leaders safety, quality and production issues.Tracks and communicates Key Performance Indicator’s (KPI’s) for the machine shop department. Collect and analyze system data to drive decision making.
  • Effectively lead and develop the CNC manufacturing and programming department.Assess necessary skills needed, identify gaps, and develop and manage training plans to meet business and team development needs. Conduct performance appraisals, issue commendations and corrective actions and address complaints/resolve problems for all direct reports.
  • Perform similar job-related duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for developing and executing financial budgets for the machine shop including identifying future equipment and headcount requirements based on strategic long term planning.Identify, justify and implement new capital purchases to meet business needs.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining SOPs and process documentation for tasks being performed by the machine shop department.
  • Responsible for recommending cost effective and capable manufacturing methods for new products and generating costs necessary to prepare sales quotes.
  • Participate in of employees as assigned. Assess new hires during probationary period to ensure they are receiving adequate training and are developing the necessary skills and experience.
  • Develop and manage TPM of all machine shop equipment, required periodic calibrations, critical spare parts lists, maintenance and service contracts from external suppliers.Perform and supervise in-depth machine repairs and rebuilds as required.
  • Support plant EH&S policies and initiatives through daily communication meetings, safety audits, safety engagements with workforce, communicating safety information and leading accident investigations. Act proactively in identifying, resolving and correcting safety issues.
  • Work with cross-functional technical teams to resolve manufacturing issues, improve manufacturability of product design, and identify and implement continuous improvements in the machining processes from concept to standardized production processes.
Required Qualifications & Skills

  • At least five years of production management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and other Continuous Improvement techniques; Lean and/or Six Sigma certification preferred.
  • Applicant must be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense security clearance.
  • Strong problem solving, facilitation and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • High school diploma or GED required plus advanced technical training or higher education.
  • MasterCam programming knowledge and ability to operate various machining equipment.
  • Strong computer proficiency including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; ERP/MRP experience preferred.
