DEKA Research & Development, housed in Manchester, NH, has an exciting opportunity for a Machine Learning Intern to work in a dynamic R&D environment as part of the perception team. In this role, you will work alongside a group of passionate engineers to do research and solve the challenging perception problems including scene understanding, object detection, localization, motion prediction, etc. to develop our SENTRY robot. Our robot is capable of autonomous navigation and change detection across variable patrol routes in an ever-expanding list of conquerable environments. A safer community is possible through the rapidly growing field of autonomous robotics, and SENTRY can act as a beacon of innovation in security.
DEKA offers Internships and Co-Ops for full time students* (must be at least 18 years of age). Internships last a minimum of 10 weeks, 12 preferred. All Fall internships must start no later than September 18, 2023 and be available until at least mid-December 2023.

How you will make an impact:
- Integrate with existing software practices that produce maintainable code, including automated testing, continuous integration, code style conformity, and code review
- Design, develop, and deploy state-of-the-art deep learning perception and computer vision techniques to solve real problems for our robot.
- Collaborate with various teams to achieve objectives in improving system performance and safety
- Translate generated algorithms into production-level code
- Research and evaluate the performance of the new ML architecture on real-world and simulated data sets to solve challenging computer vision problems
- Experience working with computer vision models for object detection, semantic segmentation, depth estimation, motion prediction, 3D reconstruction, or visual odometry/SLAM.
- Ability to work with fast pace environments and implement new state of the art models.
- Experience dealing with sensor data is a plus (camera, Lidar, radar)
- Currently enrolled in Masters or PhD in CS, ECE, Aerospace, Robotics, or similar engineering field.
- Experience with real and synthetic data curation for computer vision problems is a plus
- Must have knowledge in at least one of the following deep learning models: CNNs, vision Transformers, GANs, LSTM/GRU, RNNs.
- Must have experience in at least one of the deep learning frameworks such as Pytorch, Tensorflow, Keras, etc.
- Must have very good experience in Python programming (C++ programming is a plus).
