Position Summary
The Low Income Taxpayer Clinic at Washington University School of Law seeks a full-time Staff Attorney Fellow for a one-year term with potential renewal depending on funding status. Washington University School of Law seeks applications for the position of Staff Attorney for its Low Income Taxpayer Clinic, one of nineteen law clinic and externship courses offered by the Law School (see law.wustl.edu/academics/clinical-education-program/lowincome-taxpayer-clinic/ ).
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Clinic’s Director and/or supervising attorney, the Fellow will be expected to:
- Assuming primary responsibility for cases by engaging in substantial legal work, including intake/case evaluation, client interviewing and counseling, fact investigation, drafting pleadings and other legal filings, participating in discovery, and making court appearances.
- Provides free legal assistance to low income taxpayers on income tax disputes with the Internal Revenue Service.
- Other duties as assigned by Clinic Director.
Required Qualifications
- Outstanding legal research and writing skills.
- Admitted or eligible to practice law in Missouri (i.e., must be a member of the Missouri bar or eligible for admission on motion or as a law teacher without examination pursuant to Missouri Supreme Court Rules 8.10 and 13.06) or be sitting for the Missouri Bar in 2023.
- Admitted or eligible for admission to the U.S. Tax Court.
- J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
Salary Range
Base pay is commensurate with experience.
