Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is not eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

The Litigation Paralegal Supervisor will be responsible for the daily supervision and training of all legal assistants and/or clerical staff in the Litigation Division of the Maricopa County Assessor’s Office. You will also be responsible for reviewing court documents, tracking the status of all Tax Court cases involving or affecting Maricopa County, and responding to requests from the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office or outside counsel regarding property tax cases. We Require


  • Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies or Legal Assistance, or an Associate’s Degree in any field and a certificate of completion from a Legal Assistant or Paralegal Studies program
  • Prior lead and/or supervisor experience
  • Four (4) years of experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal or work involving legal procedures, terminology or administration


OR


  • Paralegal experience supporting attorneys in a litigation practice will substitute, year-for-year towards an Associate’s Degree
  • Four additional years of paralegal experience will substitute for Paralegal Certification


Job Contributions


  • Track the status of all tasks requiring action by litigation appraisers and prepare a prioritized list for review at the weekly Litigation Division meeting
  • Review all incoming claims for legal issues and/or claimants that may impact, or be impacted by, past, pending, or anticipated litigation, ensuring that consistent legal positions are taken throughout all levels of appeal and all units in the office
  • Evaluate business needs and make recommendations of business processes to improve the information flow within the office
  • Handle complex work and research on unique tasks to assist the Director of Litigation
  • Track status of all active Tax Court cases to ensure tasks are timely completed, and no statutory deadlines are overlooked. Adjust staffing and duties as necessary to ensure timely compliance with all timelines created by statute or by office policies and/or business practices
  • Analyze court and department data and compile reports and statistics, including multiple spreadsheets tracking current status of all cases and work tasks, as well as monthly and annual reports for the Director of Litigation
  • Oversee administration of information technology for work unit and coordinate ongoing training of technology used in the division and for new employees.
  • Reviews all filings and decisions on tax cases pending in the Maricopa County Superior Court, Arizona Court of Appeals, and Arizona Supreme Court, pulls all documents requiring review or action, and directs processing
  • Provide daily supervision of all legal assistants and/or clerical staff to ensure cases are timely opened, closed, and processed and lead weekly clerical meetings
  • Provide ongoing training and mentoring to legal assistants, support staff, and Assessor team members. Makes case assignments to litigation appraisers and directs calendaring of appraiser tasks


Working Conditions


  • This position is based in an administrative location in downtown Phoenix and allows for a combination of work-from-home and on-site work. During initial training period, on-site work will be required
