Must be able to lead a team to meet goals while operating under various timelines. Experience working with Underground Construction is preferred but not required. This is a full time position. Overview:


The Lineman position includes physical requirements and the ability to distinguish all colors used in telephone cable; ability to work aloft from ladders, platforms, poles (with climbers); and bucket trucks and must possess the ability to lift, carry, set up and secure 28 foot ladder and the ability to load/transfer standard nitrogen cylinders.


This position performs duties such as: cable maintenance, installation, removal, rearrangement and maintenance of single line and associated telecom/apparatus equipment, including cross connections to switching equipment and single-line and multichannel subscriber carrier. This position may be working out of a bucket truck while being anchored


Qualifications


Responsibilities:


  • Connecting cable as needed
  • Reading and interpreting outside plant facilities
  • Grounding, anchoring and bonding properly to ensure work is safe
  • Lineman duties including cable and fiber line work and working aloft from the ground at heights ranging from 3 feet to 40 feet.
  • Climbing telephone poles to install and work on cable lines in accordance with customer work and requirements


Qualifications:


Lineman levels are divided into the following three levels


Apprentice/Entry level


  • Possesses strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Basic understanding of lineman principles and work performed
  • Must have strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively communicate with product vendors and customers
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Basic experience with electrical or telephone work
  • Comply with all safety regulations and meet safety requirements to maintain a successful safety record
  • Other lineman related duties as assigned by direct manager
  • Must know the color code system for cable pairs or be willing to learn
  • Must be 21 years old to operate company equipment & vehicles
  • Ability to work from oral or written instructions and plan work without direct supervision
  • Ability to work with internal and external customers
  • Possesses proficient personal computer operations skills


Intermediate level


  • Knowledge of bonding and grounding requirements of telecommunications plant
  • Ability to distinguish between different cable types (i.e., telecommunication, electrical, fiber, CATV, etc.)
  • Electronics training or experience that demonstrates knowledge of AC/DC theory
  • Ability to build cable records, cut sheets and as-builts
  • Experience in how to read and interpret outside and subscriber plant facility records and engineering schematic work prints
  • Knowledge of local cable facilities and fiber networks
  • Assist other technical personnel in the performance of their duties
  • Experience in Outside Plant telecom functions


Advanced/Crew Leader Level


  • Proficient at working in aerial and buried outside plant environment
  • Ability to understand various electronic fiber mux and equipment
  • Knowledge of and connect bulkheads, splice trays, organizers, furcation kits and storage units
  • Ability to maintain and repair entire telephone loop/facilities
  • Ability to build span lines, install repeaters and perform tagging and testing functions on cable pairs to meet HDSL requirements


Other Requirements:


  • Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass a company drug screening.
  • Must be able to attend and pass all company required training as needed.
  • Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position
  • May be required to travel in state or overnight as necessary to meet business and job requirements.
  • May include working nights and holidays as needed.
  • May be required to work over-time; after hours; on weekends, for emergencies or be on-call as work is needed to ensure work is completed.

Duties outlined in this position will require the employee to stand, crouch, climb sit, bend, use hands and fingers to handle or feel as well as reaching with hands and arms to spaces both high and low. The employee will be standing, walking, climbing, balancing, crawling, crouching, lifting, holding or stooping while on shift.


  • Employees performing functions of this position are regularly exposed to outside weather conditions which can include but is not limited to: extreme heat and cold temperatures; inclement weather such as rain, snow, sleet and dust as well as adverse driving conditions including wet roads, icy roads, and fog.
  • The noise level in the work environment for this position is moderate.
  • Employees may be exposed to toxic or corrosive chemicals as well as moving machinery parts and pieces.
  • Employees in this job classification may be exposed to dust, fumes or other airborne pathogens.
  • Specific vision abilities required to perform this job include but are not limited to: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus potentially near and/or far as needed.
  • Employees performing these job functions may be required to lift or move up to 10 up to 50 pounds.
  • Employees performing these job functions may be working from heights of 3 feet to 4 feet off the ground with proper safety equipment and/or personnel.

Pay Range: The hourly pay range for the Aerial Lineman position is $22.00 - $26.00/ an hour depending on experience.
