UMMC Midtown Campus, one of two campuses of the University of Maryland Medical Center, has had a long history of working to keep our community healthy and has grown to become a trusted teaching hospital for medical and surgical care in Baltimore City.


Located in Baltimore’s cultural center near the historic Mount Vernon neighborhood, UMMC Midtown Campus is a 180-bed, community teaching hospital with a focus on helping people manage chronic diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, pulmonary conditions, and infectious diseases.



General Summary


Serve as a lifestyle coach in delivering the National Diabetes Prevention Program in community-based settings. Participate in all phases of program implementation, operations oversight, and data monitoring and reporting. Works with Baltimore Metropolitan Diabetes Regional Partnership Grant staff to ensure the DPP (Diabetes Prevention Program) achieves program outcomes. Directly interact with community members with overweight or obesity and prediabetes of diverse age and race; church and community leaders and members; physicians; and other payer communities and referral networks. Will work a flexible schedule of mostly day shifts with the ability to work evenings and Saturdays, with variable work conditions.


Qualifications


Education and Experience


  • CDC Certified Lifestyle Coach Instructor
  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Health Science, Public Health, Behavioral Psychology, Kinesiology, or related degree.
  • Required: one year of experience in conducting health education classes and/or behaviorally oriented groups, clinical experience and/or knowledge of prediabetes, diabetes, hypertension, and/or obesity; familiarity with motivational interviewing and knowledge of the principles of behavior change, and cultural competency regarding the needs of minority populations.

  • Excellent organizational skills with specific attention to detail and data collection.
  • A friendly demeanor with strong customer service skills.
  • Familiarity with the public health community.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Able to deliver behavioral interventions.
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively as a team member.
  • Outstanding verbal communication and interpersonal skills with participants, community members, and other team members.
  • Zoom proficiency preferred
  • Flexibility to work with people from all walks of life.
  • Excellent computer skills: Microsoft Office suite (especially Word and Excel).
  • Extensive knowledge of Diabetes Prevention Program lifestyle intervention.
