Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
To develop and implement programs that provide opportunities for residents to participate in events that maintain optimal levels of mental, physical, and social well-being.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Responsible for monthly newsletter and calendar of events. Ensures all print materials meet the quality standards of The Legacy.
  • Participates in resident care conferences as scheduled by AL Director; reports on result of resident and family conferences; shares pertinent information with staff and volunteers on need-to-know basis.
  • Welcomes and personally visits each new resident within 48 hours to introduce services and evaluate the interests and abilities of residents; completes activity assessment in AOD system.
  • Evaluates programming on an ongoing basis through surveys and direct interaction with residents and families. Conducts resident council meeting monthly; maintains records from meeting and communicates needed changes or concerns with the AL Director.
  • Create and maintain a motivating environment which encourages employee involvement, creativity, and problem solving.
  • Works together with Lifestyle team to ensure posted activities are carried out.
  • Communicates with the other Lifestyle Coordinators on a regular basis to inform, exchange ideas, coordinate services and discuss format for individual and group programming. Also shares insight, information and reports responses and/or progress regarding residents, maintaining confidentiality when appropriate.
  • Assists with training Memory Support Specialist and Lifestyle assistant.
  • Works closely with Volunteer Coordinator and Volunteers to ensure volunteers are assigned in appropriate areas. Conducts training for staff regarding Lifestyle department, volunteer services, and Dementia based activities.
  • Arranges transportation and/or staff supervision for events.
  • Arranges for Lifestyle team’s continued education regarding new activity development and Dementia training. Creates Lifestyle teams monthly work schedule and reflects changes that are needed based on resident activities.
  • Attends weekly care conference in order to report social changes in assisted living and memory support residents.
  • Recognizes signs and symptoms which signify a change in condition that require nursing intervention and reports these changes to the nurse in charge. Shares resident information with staff on a need-to-know basis. Remains alert for conditions that threaten the safety and well being of staff and residents. Reports hazardous conditions to Executive Director.
  • Carries out small, large, and one-to-one events for the purpose of providing any and all of the following: a friendly visitor; sensory stimulation; reality orientation; and cognitive stimulation.
  • Informs residents and staff to changes in scheduled programming in a timely manner.
QUALIFICATIONS

Educational Requirements and Experience:
  • College degree preferred but not required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification for Activity Directors preferred or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in social or recreational programming in a senior setting or related experience preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Competencies:
    • Ability to operate a car/truck and maintain a valid Commercial Driver License. Ability to operate general office equipment.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Computer Skills:
    • Ability to use Microsoft Windows. Ability to use software to design calendars and signs. Ability to use the Internet.
  • Ability to operate a car/truck and maintain a valid Commercial Driver License. Ability to operate general office equipment.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and speaking the primary language of the residents.
  • Language Ability:
