High school diploma or GED; graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of practical nursing; of medical terminology. Ability to apply simple nursing techniques; to record accurate information on patients' charts; to follow verbal and written directions; to follow established policies and procedures; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment; to interact with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds and of varying ages; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
Under general supervision, performs work of routine difficulty in a variety of practical nursing functions; performs related work as required for individuals with a primary diagnosis of intellectual/developmental disability in an intermediate care facility.
The Licensed Practical Nurse will:
- Transports individuals on medical appointments
- Prepares and administers prescribed medications, treatments and therapies
- Maintains medical charts and records
- Inventories, orders and stocks medications and medical supplies
- Schedules patient appointments
- Takes, monitors, and records vital signs (e.g. temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration rate)
- Observes, records and reports symptoms, reactions and changes in patient condition
- Perform other work as required
- Educates staff, families, and patients on routine care and prevention procedures
Hours will vary to include weekends and holidays; not to exceed 28 hours per week
