Job Description
Job Title: LPN, Licensed Practical Nurse

Reports to: Clinical Nurse Manager

Responsibilities/Daily Duties:(include but are not limited to)

Patient Care

  • Greet patients and escort to exam rooms
  • Remove sutures/staples, change sterile and non-sterile/sterile dressings
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by the physician
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures

Patient Medical Records

  • Handle medical correspondence
  • Chart progress notes
  • Record patient medical history
  • Update patient medical records

Medical Supplies

  • Dispose of contaminated medical supplies
  • Ordering medical supplies
  • Sterilize medical instruments
  • Restock exam rooms

Pharmacy

  • Authorize drug refills as directed by physician
  • Telephone prescriptions to pharmacy as directed by physician

Laboratory work

  • Perform basic laboratory tests on premises
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens
  • Arrange for laboratory services

Patient Education

  • Explain treatment procedures to patients
  • Answer medically-related patient calls
  • Promote patient/family understanding of the educational content and his/her involvement in the plan of care (document this in patient records)
  • Perform HPC’s which are history and physical consultations prior to patient having surgery at our surgery center

All other administrative and clinical duties as needed by the practice

Adheres to all HIPAA, OSHA, and other federal regulatory guidelines as required by the practice


Qualifications:

  • BLS
  • Good customer service skills
  • Working knowledge of sterile techniques and special procedures that are applicable to work performed
  • Active LPN license
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with patients and clinic staff
  • Working knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene and basic health and safety precautions applicable for work in a medical setting. Working knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions
  • Proof of high school graduation or GED
  • Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering routine and special treatments to patients, as well as age-specific competencies
  • Working knowledge of general office equipment
  • Work requires the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, as well as document and communicate pertinent information
  • Graduation from an accredited LPN program
