What You'll Be Doing
WCPL is seeking an experienced Librarian to
select Children’s materials!
WCPL is a large, dynamic system with a multi-million dollar annual book budget. Nearly half is spent on children’s books to purchase thousands of titles each year. WCPL is seeing a Librarian who is enthusiastic and passionate about Children's books to work in Collection Development Services to select youth materials for the library system.
Working under the direction of the Selection Manager, the Youth Librarian/Selector will manage the identification and research of potential new book purchases, retrospective titles, and eContent for the various children’s book collections.
Key Responsibilities include:
Applying library knowledge and expertise in the selection of titles to meet the reading needs of Wake County’s youngest residents
Communicating and coordinating with book publishers and vendors: getting Advanced Reading Copies, participating in webinars and training and ensuring cataloging and processing is up to WCPL standards
Reviewing regular Collection Development reports relating to collection size, circulation and turnover rates for their defined audience/subject area
Working with support staff in daily tasks that support the selection and receiving of WCPL books
The Selection Team works from the Olivia Raney Local History Library located next door to Library Administration on Carya Dr., Raleigh, on the beautiful county campus that also houses Historic Oak View County Park.
The new Youth Selector will train with the current Youth Selector through the end of September.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Master's degree in Librarianship or related field: MLS, MLIS, MIS, ML from an ALA accredited program or NC program
No specific experience required
Equivalent education and experience are NOT accepted
Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
Three years of experience selecting library materials, preferably children's materials
Experience managing a budget
Working knowledge of Spanish
How Will We Know You're 'The One'?
Ability to manage time and plan out tasks and possesses excellent attention to detail
Knowledge of popular children's books, authors and series and keeps up with publishing trends
Possesses solid skills with Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Teams, Excel and OneDrive

Employment Type: Regular
Work Schedule: Mon - Fri, 8:00am - 5:00pm (some flexibility with exact shift time))
Hiring Range: $21.33 - $28.80
