The Opportunity
The Kenzie Learning Engineer (Instructional Designer) will help improve and scale our pedagogy to ensure our students learn the necessary skills to be placed in meaningful positions upon completing their programs. You will report to the Director of Curriculum and Assessment and will work with the team of curriculum developers, learning specialist and other important partners. This is a fully remote position.
In this Role You'll Get To:
  • Align curriculum with quality design standards, pedagogical practices, and program outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with subject matter experts (SMEs) and instructors to design, develop, and support new and existing curriculum.
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned. This may include training, job aids, scripts, lesson plans and presentations.
  • Maintain a learner-first approach to designing the curriculum flow and learner experience for a variety of technical programs.
  • Use learning data to conduct analysis and review of curriculum and program effectiveness.
  • Expand upon the current curriculum management system to design new features such as tagging, search and filter, and others.
  • Develop documentation and systematic processes to inform the development of new programs.
  • Determine criteria for evaluating learners' performance on program learning outcomes to develop and implement the appropriate assessment strategies.
  • Recommend changes based on feedback, research, and data to existing curricula, including technology or instructional methods, to enhance the learning experience and scale our instructional bandwidth.
  • Develop programmatic curriculum maps to ensure alignment of outcomes with assessments, content delivery methods, learning approaches, and accompanying materials.
  • Establish cross-curricular learning competencies and align course learning goals and skills within these.
  • Develop a streamlined flow of information between all partners to ensure alignment among departments
  • Identify areas of improvement within existing curricula and processes, developing solutions and strategies to address these.
  • Design and develop solutions to complex problems, including the integration of different technologies and interactive programming experiences within a learning environment.
  • Design learning experiences that support students from multiple backgrounds and of various levels of English proficiency.
  • Collaborate with Academic Program Director to ensure understanding between Marketing and Sales, Admissions and Recruitment, Academic and Instruction, and Feedback and Assessment.
  • Identify new ways of collecting and analyzing learning data from within the program curricula.
What we're Looking For:
  • Experience with instructional methodologies, especially mastery learning, project-based learning, and flipped classroom.
  • Experience working in Canvas or other LMS platforms.
  • Experience developing curriculum and assessments that align to learning outcomes.
  • Understand software development principles and experience developing software in a language such as JavaScript, Java, or Python.
  • Apply appropriate pedagogical approaches that support student-centered learning.
  • At least 4 years experience in instructional design, higher education product development focused on curriculum development or educational technology development.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Have worked with a variety of tech tools including learning management systems, content management systems, learning data applications, and assessment tools.
  • You are a master at taking information from a variety of partners and data sets to develop curriculum design recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with edtech tools such as Canvas and collaborative, cloud-based tools such as Dropbox Paper and Airtable.
  • Experience using course development authoring tools like Articulate360, Camtasia, Genialy, Canva and Visme.
  • Project management experience (Agile-like project management experience is ideal).
  • Experience designing curriculum for software engineering or web development.
