PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Works under the supervision/direction of qualified leak survey personnel to develop the skills and knowledge to perform the following duties: Perform inspections (scheduled and non-scheduled) of distribution service gas piping and meter assemblies for residential, and commercial customers. Identify and classify levels of atmospheric corrosion to internal/ external piping and meter assemblies. Use approved portable instruments and observations to detect and identify gas leaks. Check buildings for migration of gas. Operate a mobile data terminal to report conditions and issue work orders. Interpret gas print information generated by computer to locate gas mains and services. Notify others when immediate hazards exist and serves in a public safety stand by capacity on site until relieved. Assist Leak Surveyors with field surveys and patrols as needed. Subject to overtime, emergency call-in and Saturday work scheduled. Works outdoors in all types of weather. Subject to U.S. Department of Transportation required chemical screening.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience: Must possess a High School Diploma or Equivalent Training, education and/or experience in a technical or vocational field; or equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge: Demonstrated basic knowledge of the gas distribution system, its properties, and associated hazards. Skills/Abilities: Ability to understand maps and maintain records. Ability to operate portable electronic instruments and hand-held computers. Demonstrated ability to communicate tactfully with customers. Valid driver's license and ability to meet Company driving standards. Demonstrated ability to use personal computers and associated software. Demonstrated ability to write, speak, read, comprehend, and communicate clearly and accurately in the English language. Must be willing and able to work overtime on a regular basis and must be available for callout overtime, if and when required, consistent with the Labor Agreement. Note: Work can be physically demanding. Individuals will work under adverse conditions, required at times to enter vacant / abandoned properties. Physical stamina necessary to walk for long periods of time. Bending, crawling, and/ or crouching may be required at times. Disclaimer: May perform other duties as assigned.
