Lead Embedded Software Engineer

Eaton’s EPG EAS Electrical Automation Solutions division is currently seeking a Lead Embedded Software Engineer. This position is based at our Rockville, Maryland facility. No relocation is being offered for this role. This position offers a Hybrid work schedule!

The expected annual salary range for this role is $95247.0 - $139695.6 a year.

What You’ll Do

The Lead Software Engineer position will be involved in many different aspects of the product life cycle, ranging from product design and definition through software design and validation. The Lead Software Engineer has a proven record of delivering high-quality embedded software features within aggressive time frames. The ability to understand system concepts, hardware interfaces and previous technical leadership experience is needed.

In This Role You Will

• Manage technical aspects of software features through entire life cycle
• Train and mentor junior engineers on software design and development principles
• Provide new ideas and concepts to the product design and software development process
• Coordinate with System Engineering, Hardware Engineers and Lead Software engineers to create product specifications
• Provide the feature portion of a project plan and drives the feature to meet the outlined schedule
• Design and develops embedded software for RF network communication and applications.
• Prepare and present training material to external and internal customers
• Define and develop system architecture for new software features

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

• Experience with full life cycle software development using standard software processes
• Minimum of 5 years experience in embedded software development using C
• No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Rockville, MD will be considered. Active-Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation
• Sponsorship is not available for this role. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without company sponsorship.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience with the STM or other ARM-based microcontrollers
• Experience with low level interfaces to hardware: DMA, SPI, I2C, UARTs, and serial flash device
• Knowledge of basic concepts of RF and wireless communications.
• Committed to providing high level of customer service
• Proven ability to work in fast paced environment while managing competing tasks and demands
• Technical leadership of features through Requirements, Design, Development and Testing
• Working knowledge of Linux, Shell scripts and Python
• Proven ability to define and deliver software features from ambiguous requirements
• Provide excellent written and oral communication with emphasis on listening to others needs
• Experience working in the electric utility market and/or power system knowledge
• Knowledge and experience with GNU Tool Chain
• Proven ability to work in fast paced environment while managing competing tasks and demands
• Experience with test equipment, i.e. oscilloscope, logic analyzers.
• Experience developing Networking protocols and knowledge of OSI models
• Bachelors in Electrical or Computer Engineering preferred
• Experience developing applications for Linux
• Experience with development on a Real Time Operating Systems
• Ability to engage with external customers directly on product behavior and support issues.
