Job Description

Hussey Copper has an opening for a Lab Manager at our Leetsdale PA location


Job Summary: Manage Hussey Copper’s metallurgical lab and lab technicians, covering sample prep, wet lab, mechanical testing, and spectrometry.

Required Education and Experience:


  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Access) and Minitab
  • Must have a good knowledge of the English language.
  • Knowledgeable ISO 9001:2015
  • Experience with testing equipment
  • Chemical: Titrations, pH, oil analysis
  • Excellent teamwork, time management, documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university (engineering, materials science, chemistry or equal) required and three to five years related experience/training.
  • Metallurgical: ICP MS, Spark OES, XRF, LECO
  • Must be able to self-motivate, train others, analyze data, and work independently.
  • Knowledge of Customer Specific Requirements
  • Mechanical Testing: Hardness, tensile, conductivity

Essential Functions:


  • Effectively communicate company and department goals, achievements, problems, solutions, practices, changes and enforce all company policies, rules and regulations.
  • Communicate with operations, quality team, and sales through reports, email, and phone.
  • Providing demonstration and instruction to technicians, as required
  • Ensure that test requirements can be executed at Hussey Copper
  • Directing performance of routine and complex maintenance, repair, and calibration on a variety of testing and measurement equipment in laboratory
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Quality Director
  • Plan “non-standard” tests in support of metallurgist investigations
  • Review customer specifications and ensure that tech edit; basis specs and order specs reflect the required testing.
  • Ensure all results meet order/specification requirements.
  • Environmental Responsibilities: Every employee of Hussey Copper bear an environmental responsibility.   • Making recommendations concerning staffing requirements and technical performance issues, budget equipment and maintenance
  • Maintain laboratory consumable inventory.
  • Maintain a world-class safe, clean and organized environment.
  • Lead, supervise, and evaluate lab technicians.
  • Create and train laboratory procedures and techniques and ensuring compliance with all quality management system policies and procedures.
