Job Description
The primary responsibility of this position is to manage the Peroxide quality control lab. This role also supports the quality management system for Peroxide in Mobile. Guides, directs, and supervises 5 indirect reports to accomplish lab quality compliance. Provide support to tank farm for tank make-up, calculations, and guidance. Maintain and manage energy management systems ISO 50001 for Mobile H2O2 plant including proficient usage of the DENMS system and associated programs. Utilizes chemistry and quality control skills, to provide support and guidance to the plant. Defines and specifies the implementation of methods and procedures for inspection and testing. Provides technical guidance to the production plant and lab to ensure process optimization and solve production upsets.
Performs laboratory testing for process chemistry, finished product and customer products to support the plant and BL AO. Maintains analytical equipment, Labworks LIMS system, SAP, SPC and SQC, and online quality instrumentation. Guides, directs, and supervises 5 indirect reports to accomplish Lab quality compliance in Mobile, USA. Leads continuous improvement (CI) program for the laboratory, participates in the plant’s CI program

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide support to the plant operators, plant engineer, and management when needed.
  • Ensure lab procedures are maintained in OpenText and ensure personnel are trained. Maintain lab performance KPI’s.
  • Manage and ensure quality control lab activities are carried out correctly and on time, including in-process sample and final product analysis. Issue the Certificates of Analysis for the finished products.
  • Maintain methods, calibrate and perform maintenance on ICP-MS, ICP-OES, AA, GC, TOC and all other instrumentation. Also, continually improve accuracy of laboratory testing methods and in-line analytical equipment.
  • Keep the lab clean and stocked. Continue to work on improving accuracy of laboratory testing methods.
  • Develop new analytical methods for specialty products and associated analytes.
  • Proper storage, inspection and management of Hazardous Waste following Site procedures and RCRA regulations.
  • Perform and be knowledgeable in various SAP transactions that affect raw materials, intermediates, and finished products.
  • Use significant technical competencies to fully understand the Active Oxygens products offered in the region and the necessary laboratory capabilities needed to perform finished product analytical testing. Serve as technical resource to the commercial team and plant team to help resolve peroxide product performance or customer questions.
  • Maintain stock of lab materials and supplies.
  • Provide technical support for production. Provide Product and application information/support to help solve customer problems both internal (other sites/ Terminals) and external.
  • Maintain proficiency in all required QC tests and operation of QC equipment.
  • Implement and maintain LabWorks and SAP/QM to support peroxide production. Take ownership of Labworks LIMS system maintenance and improvement.
  • Participate in internal ISO and RCMS audits to maintain compliance.
  • Carry out QC testing per schedule for finished products, customer/terminal products, environmental and necessary in-process testing.
  • Support the department’s energy management system ISO 50001, serve as backup energy manager
  • Ensure all QC records are maintained in timely and orderly state
  • Coordinate with regional and global quality teams on process testing and improvements.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Interpersonal skills, problem solving skills and customer focus are required.
  • Managerial and leadership experiences in Quality related field.
  • B.S. or advanced degree in Chemistry or related disciplines, with a minimum of 3 years work experience in Quality Control.
  • High degree of knowledge in ICP-MS and semi-cleanroom environment work conditions preferred.
  • Good verbal, written, and computer skills.
  • Required to work on day rotating shift when the need arises.
  • High degree of knowledge and experience with analytical instrumentation and online process instrumentation.
