About The Department


The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has 136 clinical providers, providing care at the main hospital in Hyde Park and seven off site locations. We have more than 68,000 outpatient visits, 28,000 ultrasound visits, 2,800 deliveries, and 3,300 surgeries per year. Teaching, research, and the highest quality clinical care are top priorities for the Department. The residency and fellowship programs are highly ranked and have a history of training leaders in healthcare. The Department also has a significant research enterprise, engaging in population health studies, as well as research conducted in wet laboratories on tumor biology, fibroid research, and hypertensive diseases in pregnancy. Additionally, the Section of Family Planning has established a unique research center, CI3, which focuses on reproductive policy and innovations in sexual and reproductive health. The department was ranked #16 on the 2022-2023 U.S. News & World Report.


Job Summary


Responsible for all aspects of research projects and research facilities. Plans and conducts clinical and non-clinical research; facilitates and monitors daily activities of clinical trials or research projects. Directs engineering and technical support activities to develop and maintain tools and computational methods needed to gather and analyze data. The job performs routine assignments related to scientific research projects. Ensures compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates. Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures. Writes articles, reports and manuscripts. Assists in drafting presentations on research findings.


Responsibilities


  • Performs other related work as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain an appropriate quality control program consistent with institutional guidelines and/or regulations.
  • Work with grant support staff to ensure accuracy of grant accounts and expenditures.
  • Coordinate assignment of laboratory personnel; monitor completion of assigned tasks and assist in training research technicians, fellows, residents and/or students as needed. Assist in training laboratory personnel in various techniques and analysis.
  • Maintains recruiting and scheduling research subjects; assisting with developing or amending study protocols; assisting with developing data collection tools; assisting with building databases; and providing general administrative support. Has general awareness in research techniques or methods, regulatory policies and procedures, and relevant scientific field
  • Assist in preparing completed research reports or analyses on each project phase. Direct or participate in the tabulation and computation of project results. Write results of experiments and assist in writing articles for publication.
  • Perform complex techniques or procedures such as: Isolation of tissue stem cells; Western blotting; ChIP assay; RT-PCR; 5) cell culture; small animal (mice/rats studies).
  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein and participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Manage day-to-day laboratory operations. Interview, orient, lead, mentor, evaluate and serve as a resource to other laboratory personnel to meet departmental and organizational needs.
  • Maintain knowledge of scientific trends through readings, conferences, and seminars. Review scientific literature to identify suitable procedures and methods.
  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
  • Oversee disposal of radioactive and biohazardous waste. Maintain safety records and obtain special permits as required.
  • Orders and maintain laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Supervise the set-up and maintenance of standard and/or specialized apparatus or laboratory equipment. Train laboratory personnel in the use and care of laboratory equipment.

Minimum Qualifications


Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
