Junior Full Stack Engineer

The Full Stack Engineer 1 Performs software engineering activities in all layers of the stack, from setting up the database to programming in the back-end and the appearance at the front-end. The Full Stack Engineer 1 work assignments are often straightforward and of moderate complexity. You will work with a multidisciplinary product aligned team of UI/UX designers, researchers, full-stack-, data-, and DevOps engineers focused on building high-impact, innovative products aimed at transforming benefit quoting experience for our members and associates.

We are looking for a Full-Stack Engineer with 0-3 years of experience, preferably with some experience in modern JavaScript, Node.js, React, Jest, and SQL/NoSQL data stores.

The team is organized around a product and is empowered to do the job. We co-create with our end-users and follow human-centered design approach and agile development practices. It’s a distributed onshore/nearshore/offshore team that operates remotely, working Eastern Standard Time hours.

Our front-end web apps are written in React, and our back-end services are built on Node.js. Both are written using modern JavaScript and use Jest for unit testing. We use a modern development process with continuous integration, continuous deployment, feature flags, automated testing, and vulnerability scanning. We ship in small increments, and we ship often. Apps and services are deployed in Azure Cloud.

Required Qualifications

• Proficiency in troubleshooting software issues and debugging complex codebase. Experience with performance profiling and optimization
• Strong analytical and reasoning skills with an ability to visualize processes and outcomes. Strategic thinker with strong analytic and problem-solving skills
• Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences
• Experience utilizing the modern JavaScript stack (Node.js, React, Jest)
• All-hands on deck contributor
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
• Outstanding all-round communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
• 0-3 years of experience in systems analysis and application programming development
• Understanding of modern software architecture and patterns. Knowledge of algorithms and data structures

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud native solutions in public and hybrid cloud environment
• Demonstrable experience with modern software development process, principles, and practices (continuous integration/continuous delivery, change management and version control, test-driven development, automated testing, peer-reviewed code)
• Healthcare business experience
• Experience working on cross-functional/balanced product aligned teams
• Experience with human-centered design approach
• Deep understanding of agile principles and how they can be flexibly applied
• A passion for solving problems and providing workable solutions
• Experience designing and building backend, front-end and API solutions
• Experience working with remote distributed teams
