Junior Devops Engineer Jobs

Omitron is looking for a talented Junior DevOps Engineer to join our team. We are a company rooted in ensuring mission success across flight operations, trajectory design and analysis, software tools for Space Domain Awareness, and On-Orbit Spaceflight Safety.

As a Junior DevOps Engineer, a successful candidate would be responsible in playing a pivotal role for developing, monitoring, and maintaining our software applications and mission systems infrastructure to enable real-time space domain awareness (SDA) operations. This involves coding, testing, and debugging complex algorithms to deliver robust and scalable solutions. The position involves working closely with the Engineering Lead and other Orbital Analysts to design and implement new features and resolving bugs. The work will be in support of the US Space Force’s Space Delta 2 and 18th Space Defense Squadron at Vandenberg Space Force Base.

Responsibilities

• Design, code, test, debug complex algorithms and data processing pipelines using Python to develop, improve, and maintain documentation for the application.
• Work closely with project managers to deliver a high-quality product that meets customer needs.
• Collaborate with development teams to optimize software build and deployment processes in a Linux environment.
• Integrate with cross-functional teams to define and implement best practices at site for software deployment and operations support.
• Conducting comprehensive peer/code review to ensure code quality and adherence to best practices.
• Participate in retrospective and planning meetings to make improvements for an effective software delivery process.
• Ensuring the smooth functioning of legacy code by providing bug fixes and facilitating ongoing development.
• Implement and enforce security best practices throughout the software development lifecycle, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Provide technical guidance and support to team members, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience working on Linux operating systems, including performance optimization, and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with Python numerical and scientific libraries, such as NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, and SciPy, when used for data manipulation, analysis, and visualization.
• Strong proficiency in Python2 scripting and automation, with a proven track record of delivering efficient and scalable code for various automation tasks and workflows.
• Knowledge of version control systems, such as Git, enabling efficient code collaboration, version management, and code deployment processes.
• Understanding of software testing principles and methodologies, including unit testing, integration testing, and automated testing frameworks, ensuring software quality and reliability.
• DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA-Security)
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, demonstrating a solid foundation in software development principles.
• Current DoD Secret security clearance with ability/willingness to attain a Top Secret / SCI clearance.
• Experience with databases and utilizing SQL for efficient data management.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in Perl
• Familiarity with parallel programming concepts and frameworks such as multiprocessing, multithreading, or async, enhancing software performance and scalability.
• Experience with agile project management methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban, enabling effective team collaboration, iterative development, and timely delivery of software solutions.
• Understanding of performance optimization techniques, including profiling, caching, and load testing, ensuring efficient and scalable software performance.
• Proficiency in Python3
• High levels of creativity and quick problem-solving capabilities
• 2+ years of software engineering experience showcasing a strong foundation in software development principles and practices.
• Understanding of DevOps principles and practices, promoting collaboration between development and operations teams, and ensuring the efficient delivery of software products.
• Proficiency in Linux shell scripting
