What you'll do


As a Junior Developer, you'll be responsible for specific project tasks including designing, developing, testing, deploying and servicing technology solutions that meet & exceed National Grid internal & external customer’s needs. You'll be expected to have some basic programming background and technical acumen, with a willingness to learn. We'll provide the mainframe and Cobol training required to perform the duties of this position. You'll report to the Solution Engineering Manager within the IT Customer area within the National Grid IT organization. Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Prepare and present project-level communications for team members and stakeholders
  • Ensure system, technical and product architectures are aligned with business objective
  • Work on efforts directly and indirectly for our Legacy Systems (Customer Service System [CSS]/Meter-to-Cash Services) platform; partner with project team members
  • Develop and supports activities on projects within the CIS Platform Products domain
  • Communicate effectively with business and technology team members and partners
  • Initiate and foster relationships with business partner teams, technology teams, vendors, and partners; develops relationships that promote trust and increase efficiency and effectiveness
  • Work within a Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) including Waterfall, Agile or SAFe methodologies

What you'll need


  • Team player, willing to take on new challenges and jump in where necessary
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering or sufficient experience with computer programming.
  • Willingness to learn and grow with the team and organization
  • Excellent communication skills

It would be awesome if you had


  • Experience working with UNIX and C/C++
  • Experience working with Mainframe/Cobol programming
  • Knowledge of Agile software development tools (JIRA, etc)
  • Knowledge of Agile software delivery models (Kanban, Scrum, etc.)
  • Experience working in the Utilities industry or related technology industry
  • Experience work on business-critical CSS/Meter-to-Cash technology programs

Salary
$51,000 - $64,000 a year
Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company’s testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.
