GENERAL SUMMARY


Lincoln Park Zoo’s Marketing & Communications team is looking for an entry-level graphic and/or digital designer to support daily operations, events, and storytelling. Our ideal candidate is creative, thoughtful, proactive, friendly, and eager to contribute to the zoo’s mission by ensuring our brand is well and thoughtfully represented in all we make and do.


Because Lincoln Park Zoo is a physical location and the designer will help implement and execute on-grounds digital signage, candidates must be available to work two days/week in the office, and potentially more if the work requires it.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


  • Design collateral and promotional materials
  • Print, customize, and install signage across grounds in partnership with the Production team
  • Execute necessary quick-turnaround projects
  • Attend and participate in meetings with supervisor, M&C team meetings, brainstorms, etc.
  • Work with vendors to get pricing estimates for print jobs.
  • Perform basic digital design work as needed
  • Design basic zoo signage to support operations and events, including new and updated materials
  • Work within our project assignment platform to receive and process assignments.
  • Support design of on-grounds digital signage
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Receive print orders and review for accuracy and quality. Work with supervisor and/or Production team to resolve mistakes or bad print jobs


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES


  • Ability to interact courteously and respectfully with supervisor, fellow employees, volunteers, zoo visitors and general public
  • Ability to organize tasks and time to ensure timely completion of all projects
  • Graphic and/or digital design skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite and commonly used web applications like Dropbox, Zoom, and Google platforms
  • Good written and verbal communication and client service skills, comfort with working with a variety of personalities
  • Strong organizer and manager of your own time
  • Ability to comfortably complete both planned and last-minute projects
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Proficiency with Adobe® Creative Cloud® software


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

0-2 years. No workplace experience required; however, candidates should have some classroom or freelance experience with graphic and/or digital design.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (required of all zoo staff)

Ability to remain seated for long periods of time.

Ability to traverse zoo grounds.

Ability to remain on feet for long periods of time.

Ability to regularly perform a variety of physical tasks that include but are not limited to climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and/or crawling.

Ability to operate and safely drive electric carts.

Ability to work in all weather conditions.

Physical strength, including ability to lift and move of up to 50 lbs.

No allergies to plants or animals on zoo grounds.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to work in an open office environment (cubes). Available to occasionally work special events that may occur outside of regular work schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, or early mornings according to the demands of the role and tasks.


Compensation: $45,000/annually
