Job Description
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Purpose of the Position The purpose of the Judicial Assistant is to provide administrative support to the Circuit Court Judge and to assure timely and efficient operation of the Circuit Court Branch including schedules, court calendars and communications involving the Sauk County Circuit Court activities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Schedule court proceedings including hearings, conferences, trials, and jury trials; contact attorneys and other concerned parties regarding court dates, cancellations and case status. Conduct pretrial and status conferences with attorneys and litigants incorporating the setting of deadlines, court dates and due dates for pleadings and briefs. Transcribe Judge\'s dictation, prepare correspondence, type and proofread judicial decisions, and prepare jury instruction and verdict forms. Perform reception tasks such as greeting visitors and answering phones. Review incoming mail and legal documents for the Judge\'s signature. Work with Clerk of Court staff to ensure the quality and accuracy of the court file including discovery error and discrepancies in the case files which include correct party/attorney identification, incorrect addresses to be updated, cases that are open that should be closed and improperly filed documents and documents not recorded or scanned. Respond to inquiries from the public and press in an appropriate manner, maintaining confidentiality and complying with legal and ethical obligations. Additional Duties and Responsibilities Coordinate out of-county judicial assignments- review incoming assignments, set up files, schedule preliminary matters and coordinate schedules with assigning counties. Maintain Judicial Dashboard status. Order office supplies. And other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Descriptive data and information such as regulations, commercial driver\'s licenses, court documents, schedules and calendars, juvenile disclosure statements, judicial assignment forms, computer software operating manuals, highly confidential information, and routine and non-routine correspondence Verbally and in writing with Judges, court reporters, judicial assistants, attorneys, bailiffs, jurors, litigants, County Board Supervisors, law enforcement personnel, juvenile offenders, Clerk of Court personnel, District Court administrator, computer technicians, vendor representative, out-of-county court personnel, and Probation and Parole personnel Explain, demonstrate, and clarify to others established policies, procedures, and standards Adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and calculating percentages, fractions, and decimals Computer skills, such as word processing and spreadsheets Compare, count, differentiate, measure, sort, classify, compute, tabulate, and/or categorize data and/or information Assemble, copy, record, and transcribe data and/or information Analyze data and information using established criteria to define consequences and consider and select alternatives Apply functional and situational reasoning by exercising judgement, decisiveness, and creativity in everyday routine and non-routine situations Use fine and gross motor skills to perform tasks such as operating a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and computer printer Exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, involving lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling Environment Safe and comfortable in respects to noise, and disease, with some potential exposure to violence. ***** APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: Apply Online: https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/saukwi
