The IT Internal Auditor is responsible for performing and supporting Internal Audit and Internal Control projects related to processes throughout the organization. Burlington’s Internal Audit (IA) team partners with the business units (Finance, HR, IT, etc.) by performing projects year-round to help these groups understand and manage risks to their business and technology. The IT Internal Auditor plays a role in all phases of the project lifecycle (i.e., planning, scoping, execution, reporting), demonstrates professional curiosity, has a continuous improvement mindset, and possesses the desire/aptitude to rapidly learn new skills.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Applies problem-solving methods and data analysis to identify business issues and themes across multiple projects.
  • Perform risk assessment and testing/audit of data processing systems and IT security rules.
  • Considered a technical expert and provides assistance to Company management as necessary and stays current on changing rules and regulations both in the industry and profession. Pursues continuous professional development through training, certifications and education, and shares with IA team members in order to develop the team.
  • Accountable for the execution of assigned Internal Audit, Internal Controls (Sarbanes-Oxley), Risk Management, and/or Governance projects of varying complexity and scope covering: operational, strategic, technology and compliance risks.
  • Ensures all assigned projects are properly planned and executed within defined timeframes, fieldwork is properly conducted and completed in accordance with the audit plan, and project reports are issued timely and with high quality.
  • Proactively develops business partnerships with management and maintains a presence with management, where applicable, in order to understand business strategies, challenges and risks.
  • Regularly works with various levels of Company management and keeps IA and management informed of engagement status and important issues as they arise. Assesses the impact of observations and presents them in a persuasive and confident manner. Writes clear, concise, and meaningful reports and issue summaries.

Core Responsibilities

  • Conducts reviews of specific operations requiring the evaluation of data, interpretation of intangible or unusual factors, summarization of findings and presentation of recommendations and suggestions.
  • Consistently exercises independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Ability to travel as needed. Out-of-town travel less than 5%.
  • Measures and evaluates the effectiveness of internal controls.

Educational, Experience, and Skill Requirements

  • Knowledge of management information systems terminology, concepts, and practices and understanding of multiple technology domains including software development, Windows, Linux, and database management preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in business or IT related field with solid academic credentials.
  • Experience with commercial data analytic and visualization tools (i.e., IDEA, ACL, Power BI, and Tableau) highly desired.
  • 1-3 years related professional experience in public accounting and/or internal audit.
