Job Description

Position Description


Assists in performing any combination of the following duties: raise, place, and connect girders, columns, and other structural steel members to form completed structures or structure frameworks according to the layouts or blueprints while working as a crewmember. These duties must be performed in a safe and timely manner with the highest quality possible.


Job Responsibilities


  • Force member into final position using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks and hand tools.
  • Pull, push, or pry steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device.
  • Cut and weld steel members to make alterations.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
  • Bolt aligned members to keep in position until they can be permanently bolted or welded into place.
  • Signal worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel member.
  • Align bolt holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member by driving drift pins or handle of spud wrench through holes.
  • Set up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural steel members.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Guide member using tag line (rope) in order to guide it into position.
  • Maintain work area in clean and tidy manner.
  • Verify vertical and horizontal alignments of members using plumb bob and level.
  • Fasten (rig) steel members to hoist using chain, cable, or rope.


Job Qualifications
  • 2 each 1” Bull Pin
  • Work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environments
  • 1 each Torpedo Level
  • 1 each 7/8” Spud Wrench or Adjustable Spud Wrench
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb, bend, twist, stand and reach repetitively.
  • Must be able to work at heights up to 200 feet
  • 1 each 30” Sleever Bar
  • 1 each Center Punch
  • 1 each 8 Pound Hammer
  • 1 each 24” Level
  • 1 each 2 Pound Hammer1 set Socket Set up to 1 1/4”
  • Minimum Required Tool List:
  • 40 or more hours per week with possible weekend work
  • 1 each Chalk Box
  • 1 each Tri-Square
  • Background check and drug screen based on job location/requirements
  • 1 each 12” Crescent wrench
  • 1 each Harness with Bolt Bag, Frog & Safety Cables 3/8”dia
  • 1 each 25’ Tape
  • 1 each 3/4” Spud Wrench
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in the field
