Position


The Investment Research & Trading Associate is a key member of the Asset Management team with a dual role of financial analysis of potential investments combined with trading of both equity and debt instruments. The Investment Research & Trading Associate will work with Portfolio Managers and Research Analysts across 3 equity strategies and 2 fixed income portfolios in the SMA format with total AUM of roughly $1.7 billion. The position encompasses monitoring of existing positions as well as due diligence of prospective investments. The role also involves coordination of and communication around various projects to expand the Asset Management business’ capabilities, efficiency, and scalability over time.


While performing trading functions the Research & Trading Associate will be interfacing with Relationship Management, and Service & Operations, handling trading flows for both equities & debt instruments. Trading flows are generated on the portfolio management side (repositioning & risk management) and the client side with rebalancing as needed to minimize return dispersions against the reference portfolios.


Responsibilities


  • Offering trading related input to position selection and management
  • Perform Industry and Macro analysis to better inform the fundamental portfolio decisions and understand the operating and competitive environment of investments and prospective investments.
  • Work closely with Portfolio Managers on investment selection, tactical timing, and sizing/risk management
  • Assist the Head of Asset Management on projects to advance the Asset Management business’ capabilities over time.
  • Monitor portfolio positions for changing dynamics, both positive and negative.
  • Assist in analysis of portfolio risk and risk mitigation techniques including hedging.
  • In depth company due diligence on public and private opportunities across the capital stack (debt to equity and everything in between).
  • Execute client level account trades for cashiering activity and account opening and closings as necessary by Relationship Managers and Service & Operations.
  • Analysis of portfolio returns and contributors/detractors on both an absolute basis and relative to benchmarks when appropriate.
  • Execute portfolio level trades across the 3 equity and 2 fixed income strategies in a timely manner and at best available pricing as directed by senior portfolio managers, while emphasizing accuracy and controlling operational risks
  • Maintain high standard of communication across the Asset Management, Relationship Management and Service & Operations teams.
  • Periodically check dispersion of the strategies across client accounts and rebalance as needed to minimize dispersion and balance against the competing goal of minimizing trading activity.


Qualifications


  • 0-5 years of research & financial analysis experience in the investment field covering various industries and companies
  • Bachelor’s degree required in related field; course work in accounting and basic understanding of GAAP required.
  • Demonstrated interest in research & financial analysis in the investment field
  • CFA or MBA are desirable
  • Series 7 & 66 required or willing to obtain


Skills


  • Experience with quantitative analysis/statistics is desirable
  • Exceptional ability to prioritize competing deadlines with a strong sense of urgency
  • Strong background in accounting and financial reporting
  • Very detailed and methodical in performing trading duties to ensure good execution and minimize risk of errors.
  • Outstanding communication (written and verbal), exceptional interpersonal abilities, dedicated team member
  • Strong skills in working with investment-related data services including Bloomberg & FactSet
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong understanding of equity, debt, and options-based investing
  • Programming capability in Python and/or R desirable
  • Ability to adapt to constantly changing market conditions, reporting needs and requirements
