Job Summary: Private Markets and Impact Strategist

Montcalm is seeking an experienced Private Markets and Impact Strategist to join its team of financial professionals. As the Impact Strategist, you must have an MBA, experience with private markets, and exposure and/or experience with impact capital. Your focus will be 100% in the Impact environment, so you must be passionate about investments that are changing the world and have a strong drive to expand our portfolio. The Impact Strategist is also expected to be client relationship oriented, organize existing investments, provide updates and due diligence to keep the research and values up to date. The Impact Strategist will interface directly with high-net worth clients, startups and investors, and participate as a member of the firm’s investment committee and in all firm-wide discussions. The chosen candidate will be a thought-leader in the organization and operations of Montcalm’s portfolio and help facilitate the entire investment process.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the firm’s origination and diligence of private impact investment opportunities through evaluating the fund’s investment strategy, analyzing portfolio company financials, reviewing deal structures and investment agreements, and ensuring positive impact generation;
  • Act as a member of the firm’s investment committee to analyze and discuss the optimization and impact of client portfolios across assets classes;
  • Lead the ongoing development and articulation of Montcalm’s impact strategy and work with our third-party impact reporting partner to develop impact metrics across asset classes and create Annual Impact Reports.
  • Assist with the returns analysis and tracking of client portfolios across asset classes;
  • Lead the organization and operations of Montcalm’s portfolio of private investments at the firm, fund, and client level and help facilitate the entire investment process;
  • Manage the firm’s internal investment pipeline through maintaining an organized and robust database, tracking industry trends, and speaking with startups and investors;
  • Identify new private impact fund offerings and grow the firm’s investments in this asset class by meeting with clients and clearly outlining the fund investment strategies, financial returns, and impact;
  • Build and maintain relationships and networks with leading players in the impact investment space, such as fund managers and founders, by attending annual meetings and networking events;
  • Be a thought-leader on the team, articulate the intricacies of each investment, and ensure clear communication from the fund manager to the team and clients;
  • Write quarterly updates on each investment and be able to answer any questions from clients about their portfolio;


Desired Level of Education & Experience:

  • Experience interfacing with high-net worth clients, fund managers and founders
  • 3+ years experience working in private capital markets with exposure to impact-focused investments
  • MBA is desirable

  • Highly technology proficient. This role will require extensive use of MS Office tools, CRM, and performance reporting software (Addepar).;

  • Common sense is a valued trait. Team player, collaborative, able to work with and through others;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex financial concepts and explain them to internal and external clients;
  • Ability to be discreet and keep confidentiality;


Essential Mental/Physical Functions:

  • Lift up to 20 lbs. infrequently.
  • Share a workspace and maintain good order.
  • Sit for most of the day using a computer and phones.
  • Work alone or with others in an office environment.


Equipment/Software Used:

  • Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Addepar, Wealthbox CRM, project management systems, DocuSign.


Salary and Benefits:

  • Paid Time Off: holidays, vacation, sick pay, and bereavement leave are all commensurate with industry standards.
  • Medical Benefits: after 90 days, medical, vision, dental, life, disability.
  • Salary: $90k plus quarterly bonuses have the potential to start after 6 months of employment and are discretionary based on a percentage of Gross Revenues with potential for an additional bonus at year end.
  • Retirement Savings: 401(k) participation after 90 days employment with 3% matching.

Additional Comments:

  • Must live in close proximity to the office for flexibility to work in the office most days.
  • Hybrid schedule working in the office Monday - Thursday, and most Fridays working from home.
