Job Description
Job Responsibilities


The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism is a cabinet agency assigned to operate and manage South Carolina's 47 state parks, market the state as a preferred vacation destination and provide assistance to communities to develop recreation assets.


Job Purpose And Duties


Manage tourism-based economic development programs through strategic marketing and sales independently and in cooperation with national and regional partnerships of South Carolina's leisure resources to targeted international trade and consumer audiences, including but not limited to the United Kingdom, German-speaking countries, other European countries, and Canada.


  • Manage budget for international sales program.
  • Oversee the design, development and implementation of proactive, research-based economic development/marketing programs for the purpose of sustaining and growing visitation to SC among residents of the UK, German-speaking countries and other European countries.
  • Leverage Brand USA, Travel South USA and Coastal/Upstate joint marketing opportunities to position South Carolina in a leadership position nationally and internationally with regard to international marketing. Encourage rural counties and less known destinations to take part in international programs via participation in Brand USA's programs including trip and destination pages. Educate and engage them in the international market, showing the value of targeting this type of visitation.
  • Manage the international contract and any subcontracts established for the purpose of international marketing. Manage the request for proposal process to select international rep firm prior to expiration of current contract.
  • Coordinate outreach to international operators, media and in-country representatives by developing contacts in the CRM and sharing relevant information to further promote SC. Maintain a digital report to record annual marketing initiatives.
  • Practice and promote teamwork within the Sales & Marketing Office, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders.


Minimum And Additional Requirements


Bachelor's degree in business administration, communications, marketing or closely related field and five years experience in economic development, tourism industry marketing or equivalent experience in consumer and trade marketing.


Additional Requirements


  • Knowledge of the tourism industry and South Carolina's tourism product. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to plan, organize and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Above average knowledge of Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint software. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Valid SC Driver’s License.
  • Passport required.
  • Frequent in-state travel. Occasional out-of-state and foreign travel. Occasional weekend and evening work required. Ability to pay in advance for goods and services while travelling and file for reimbursement.


Preferred Qualifications


One or more foreign languages preferred.
