Job Brief

As the Instrumentation Technician you will maintain, repair, troubleshoot, or replace plant instrument equipment. You will be responsible for performing new construction and/or modification in conformance with electrical code requirements.

What You’ll Do

As the Instrumentation Technician, you will will install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and document a wide range of industrial instrumentation, electronic monitoring, metering, controlling, and signaling devices used in the production facility. Other duties will include:

  • Demonstrate and/or lead the commitment to the pursuit of achieving Zero Harm through behavioral based safety. (Ensure SAO, JSA, Take 5’s, stretching, and all safety rules are being completed.)
  • Be able to move in and around process equipment and confined spaces.
  • Work closely with plant operations to evaluate both routine and emergency instrument work.
  • Support Business Improvement initiatives .
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair and replace process instruments as a part of the plant's maintenance program
  • Troubleshooting and repair of all I/E related equipment within the plant.
  • Conducts periodic preventative maintenance on analyzers, measurement devices or other plant instruments, diagnoses existing or potential trouble; cleans, lubricates, calibrates, and adjusts as conditions indicate.
  • Wear proper safety equipment in appropriate areas.
  • Performs all work within plant safety rules and procedures.
  • Lays out, installs, and places into service new meters, valves, or any other field devices, calibrating as required; may extend or connect related electrical circuits.
  • Provide knowledge of control systems, components, and hardware.
  • Other duties as assigned by the I&E Supervisor and Maintenance Manager.
  • Performs repair and testing work requiring a high-level of knowledge, skills, and abilities, and serves as a technical resource to others.
  • Perform required environmental compliance testing and documentation.
  • Reads and interprets wiring diagrams, P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and specifications related to installations.
  • Utilize good judgment in the selection of tools and parts for repair work, and report any discrepancies found.
  • Maintain process instruments including valves, vibration monitors and other instruments.
  • Provide knowledge of electrical controls and LOTO procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Company HSE Performance Standards, as well as applicable acts and regulations.
  • Performs all work within plant safety rules and procedures.
  • Installs, maintains, repairs, overhauls, calibrates, and tests a wide variety of industrial instrumentation that record, indicate, control, and regulate level, flow, pressure, temperature, position of process related equipment .
  • Live and foster the IPL Corporate Values.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Willingness to work overtime and be on call as required.
  • 4+ yrs experience instrumentation installation and maintenance
  • 12+ months as Maintenance Technician "D" or previous Instrumentation Experience.
  • Instrumentation Technician “B” for 24+ months and I&E Tech “C” for 18+ months
  • Positive attitude, friendly demeanor, and a team player
  • Knowledge of maintenance tools and their proper application.
  • Must have aptitude for working with electrical and Instrumentation equipment.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
