INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN I

Buckeye Partners is currently seeking an Instrument Technician I with an in-depth understanding of maintenance related to Instrument and control systems for terminal and pipeline operations to join our team!


Role Summary:

Responsible for performing instrument maintenance, installation, trouble shooting, and preventative maintenance of facility equipment inclusive of but not limited to boiler controls, engine controls, control valves, radar gauges, and gas detectors.


Responsibilities & Essential Functions include:

  • Adhere to all environmental regulations, safety policies and operating procedures.
  • Maintains facility instrument and control equipment to ensure compliance with the relevant codes.
  • Implement effective and timely equipment maintenance/repairs to ensure maximum availability, reliability and safety in terminal operations
  • Repair or replace defective wiring and relays in lighting and safety control system.
  • Troubleshoot all electrical systems and make recommendations for upgrades.
  • Checks and coordinates plans for instrument/ control upgrades and projects.
  • Execute scheduled Preventative Maintenance and maintain annual device calibrations for the terminal as required.
  • Consults with the Operations Supervisor to plan and schedule daily work in accordance with set priorities and operating requirements.
  • Utilizes computer maintenance management system (CMMS) for maintenance work orders and ensure that the completed work orders are recorded appropriately.
  • Maintain detailed equipment service records.
  • Respond to terminal related emergencies when called upon to do so.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

Position Requirements:

  • High School Diploma is required
  • 3 years + related experience in electronic/ instrumentation/ control’s operations required
  • Knowledge and experience in single phase electrical
  • Knowledge of international and local electrical codes.
  • Experience utilizing MS Office required

Certificates & Licenses:

  • Valid Drivers License
  • Single Phase Electrical Certification

Other Skills, Attributes and Abilities:

  • In order to be successful in this position, one must possess a strong electrical and mechanical aptitude with excellent analytical skills
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills are also required
  • This position requires someone who can work well under pressure and has a strong commitment to safety
  • Must be able to spend significant time in the field with good physical stamina, thereby being exposed to adverse weather conditions and hazardous environments
  • Extraordinary circumstances may often be required without advance notice for after-hours work on week days, weekends and holidays

  • This role requires the ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the terms of your employment.

  • This position requires the ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with Buckeye standards.

Physical & Safety Requirements:

  • This person must perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials.
  • Position may require exposure to adverse weather conditions, hazardous environments and require the physical stamina to climb tanks, work long hours in the field and wear a respirator.
  • Required use of all safety equipment in performance of job.
