Pay: $65,000.00 yr

Role and Responsibilities


This Role Will Require You To


As an Academic Instructor with us, you will be teaching in a classroom environment to provide diverse students with adult basic education, English language development, special education, and basic subjects including reading, mathematics, and language arts.


  • Provide individual tutoring.
  • Instruct conversational English, as well as local ideas and customs to students with limited English proficiency.
  • Evaluate and ensure inmate/detainee academic progress.
  • Teach career planning, social adjustment, and general life skills courses.
  • Maintain records including testing, daily inmate/detainee work, and attendance.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience teaching adults and or youth and knowledge and experience of policy and procedure governing adult education is a must.
  • Reciprocity may be possible provided the applicant holds a current valid teaching license from another state.
  • Must be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License by the Virginia Department of Education. License in 'relevant educational field' is required. If you do not currently hold a teachers/trade license from the Department of Education you must submit all documentation and be approved for a provisional license before starting employment.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • One year of relevant teaching experience in the last 5 years.


Physical Requirements


  • Occasionally: lift or carry up to 20 lbs.; push or pull up to 40 lbs.; sit.
  • Frequently: lift or carry up to 10 lbs.; bend, stoop, reach above shoulder level, walk, or stand.
