Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promote the use of Job Prep Services Office's career assessment, goal setting and career skills/job preparation services for CTE students.
  • Work with faculty to implement a regular CTE seminar to engage and support all CTE students regardless of program. Assist in the development and implementation of a summer bridge program for CTE students.
  • Increase students’ employability through industry-recognized certificates (e.g. Integrated Industrial Technology, Information/Computer Science, and Sustainable Agriculture programs). Schedule and conduct group workshops on career/job preparation.
  • Create a graduate contact database and an online student employment survey and disseminate to recent graduates and alumni.
  • Possible evening, weekend, and off-campus assignments.
  • Responsible for implementing efforts designed by program counselors & coordinators directed at improving enrollment, retention, persistence, completion, and placement rates in assigned Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs (Accounting, Automotive Technology, Business Technology, Culinary Arts, Digital Media, Health Information Technology, Information/Computer Science, Integrated Industrial Technology, Management, Sustainable Agriculture, Substance Abuse Counseling, Teacher Education) and also in Workforce Development Non-Credit programs.
  • Provide student support, assistance, and follow-up with the onboarding and enrollment process. Coordinate with the financial aid office to assist students with financial literacy and on financial aid suspension.
  • Work with CTE instructors to perform routine, planned interventions and make referrals to support services as needed.
  • Strengthen relationships and partnerships with area high schools, area middle schools, community schools, and military centers to increase enrollment and yield rates (i.e. number of students enrolled/number of students admitted) in CTE programs.
  • Implement and strengthen work-based learning opportunities such as internship programs.
  • Collaborate with CTE counselors and program faculty to monitor student progress toward acquiring program certificates and degrees (CO, CA, AAS, AS). Monitor the attendance and performance of students in assigned CTE program to increase retention and persistence and completion rates. Engage in regular follow-up, contact with and tracking of students in person, by phone and electronically.
  • Monitor statistics and submit quarterly and year-end completion reports regarding student retention in CTE programs.
  • Develop and monitor a social network site for CTE students. Assist in the development of a CTE student peer network. Provide guidance and advice to CTE student clubs.
  • Assist CTE program counselor in helping students clarify their educational, career and life goals with an emphasis on students transitioning to professional jobs.
  • Hire, train, and supervise student peer mentors in CTE programs.
  • Other Duties as Assigned.
  • Work with assigned CTE program counselor(s) to implement career exploration, career/job preparation, career/job placement, retention and completion strategies and coordinate referrals to other student and academic support services.
  • Prepare and conduct progress report briefings regarding individual student progress. Provide updates to CTE program coordinators and counselors.
  • Attend CTE advisory committee meetings and visit internship sites to recommend suitable placements.
  • Work with the Office of the Dean of CTE to coordinate annual CTE month activities and other related events.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  • Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in student support services in an educational setting demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the support of students with diverse academic, cultural, social, racial, gender, and economic backgrounds.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate concepts and ideas to individuals and groups.
  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Business, Education, Psychology, Counseling & Guidance, Human Services or related field and 1 year of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for student support services in an educational setting; or equivalent education/training or experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
  • Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with student support services.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience in hiring, training, and supervising student peer mentors.
  • Experience in implementing strategies related to career exploration, career/job preparation, and placement practices.
  • Ability to compile and analyze data for assessment and evaluation at a basic level (e.g. retention rates, yield rates, completion rates, surveys, etc.).
  • Experience with work-based learning programs (i.e., internships, co-ops, etc.).
  • Experience in working with area high schools, area middle schools, community schools, and military centers to increase enrollment.
  • Experience with educational program advisory committees.
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet, database and presentation applications.
  • Experience in implementing strategies related to enrollment processes, onboarding, retention, and completion practices.
  • Strong organizational skills and analytic skills, including experience working with support staff, faculty and administrators.
  • Knowledge of Career and Technical Education programs, certificates and degrees.
