Commuting from your home base in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to different ambulatory sites in our Central PA area is required in this position. UPMC of Harrisburg and Central PA is looking for an Informatics Nurse I - Registered Nurse (RN). The Informatics Nurse I will work with our Ambulatory Clinics and Physicians to collaborate technology and nursing care to achieve the best patient care possible.
Hours: Monday - Friday 8am-5pm NO WEEKENDS! NO HOLIDAYS! NO ON-CALL! This position is the first position on the career ladder, the team is willing to train and there's room to grow in this exciting, modern field of nursing.
The Informatics Nurse I under the direction of the Director, Clinical and Operational Informatics (DCOI), has the responsibility and accountability of assessing and assisting in the investigation, development, and implementation of new technology as it relates to clinical practice, and serving as a liaison for end users and the Informatics division.
Responsibilities:
- Monitors workflows and processes, evaluates outcomes, and makes recommendations where system, process or functionality gaps exist.
- Functions as an internal consultant, resource person, and educator to all levels of personnel in accordance with the objectives of the informatics department.
- Informatics Nurse I participates on project teams to ensure a successful, on time go live.
- Help manages the Provider on-boarding process as it relates to the use of information systems by coordinating schedules and developing training curriculum as well as providing training in classroom and elbow-to-elbow settings.
- Maintains membership on, or consultation to, committees, work groups, or task forces as needed to communicate and facilitate the ongoing progress of development, implementation, and revision of the clinical information system.
- Objectively observes and educates end users utilizing unit rounds to identify ongoing educational needs regarding clinical documentation issues, patient care challenges, and software application upgrades. Prioritizes issues and reports them accordingly.
- Assumes responsibility as assigned to assist with the continuous improvement projects and maintenance of Epic.
- Provides informatics mentorship at the unit/dept level helping to develop an interest in informatics.
- Provides support to CMIO by setting meetings and establishing groups for resolution of EHR assessment.
- Forms a partnership with end users to maintain an open dialogue for continuous feedback and quality improvement.
- Supports applied use of clinical information technology and the tools of clinical process improvement to support best clinical practices, and standardization of the environment of care.
- Creates a work environment to promote flow of ideas for improvement of the Epic.
- This position assists the CMIO by serving as a subject matter expert (SME) and champion for Epic and related tools to assist with integration of related processes and workflows necessary to achieve successful adoption of new technologies.
- Participates in interdepartmental and system activities to encourage communication.
- Participates in Informatics Professional organization activities to enhance personal growth and cultivate relationships in the field at a regional and national level. Performs all other job-related activities as assigned.
- Assists Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants to make effective and meaningful use of Epic tools in their practice at UPMC Pinnacle. This is accomplished through robust clinician assessment, training, monitoring and optimization support. Further assists with development and delivery of tools and services to empower clinicians to deliver high quality care through the effective and efficient use of the Epic related clinical information systems.
- Is empowered to engage appropriate health care personnel and Epic team members as issues arise. Identifies and communicates learning needs to appropriate manager.
- He/She will serve as a liaison to internal and external clinicians, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists and ancillary staff to effectively execute assigned projects.
- Assist in the design and capture of metrics around the impact of various interventions in the processes of care delivery and assists in teaching and implementing methodology around the transformation of care to safer practices through the use of clinical information technology.
- Graduate of an approved school of nursing for registered nurses (RN)
- BSN required
- Minimum of 3 years acute care nursing experience required
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse license or eligible for State Board Licensure.
Clearances must be dated within 90 days
