Summary
The infection preventionist is responsible for the facility infection prevention and control program, which is designed to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment and to help prevent the development and transmission of communicable diseases and infections.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience in a healthcare setting or similar required. One (1) year of infection control experience preferred. Current North Carolina professional license required, if applicable. Coursework in biostatistics, biology, microbiology, and public health preferred. These are the observable and measurable attributes and skills required to perform successfully the essential functions of the job and are generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or licensure/certification. Ability to conduct analysis and formulate conclusions. Ability to demonstrate literacy in using computerized information systems. Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines. Ability to use judgment and make sound decisions. Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization. Must be able to see, hear, read and have manual ability to use telephones, video equipment and computer keyboard. Must be able to move throughout all departments of the Medical Center and effectively communicate orally to patients, family members, personnel, and physicians. Position may involve exposure to skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parental contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials.
Must achieve CIC certification within 2 years of hire.
