Supports the Safety/Infection Control Department in monitoring and reporting data as required by NJ state and the federal government. Assists in the fulfillment of the Joint Commission standards and the National Patient Safety Goals.
Qualifications:
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Associate's degree in Allied Health, Nursing, Microbiology, or Epidemiology.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of body systems and medical terminology.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have experience working with Excel and Word and can be attentive to detail.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree or in progress.

Responsibilities:
A day in the life of an Infection Control Preventionist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
  • Conducts patient interviews via telephone fluently in English and Spanish on their signs and symptoms of Infection 30 days post-operatively and one year later.
  • In the absence of the Director, Safety/Infection Control, acts as liaison with the NJDOH, local health departments, employee health, and others, as needed.
  • Serves as an investigator in the surveillance of post-operative wound infections by providing active surveillance of all patients 30 post-operatively; and one year later for all surgeries involving implants.
  • Ensures delivery of excellent customer service resulting in positive and improving patient satisfaction scores for department and Medical Center.
  • Serves as a liaison between staff and managers in monitoring the compliance with Infection Control Policy and Procedures.
  • Performs surveillance monitoring; includes identifying, documenting, and reporting of surveillance data; includes chart review for the purpose of gathering data to be submitted to various regulatory agencies.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Serves on the Hand Hygiene Surveillance team and is responsible for compiling and trending data for all patient units.
  • Works collaboratively with the Director, Safety/Infection Control in developing policies and procedures. Assists in compliance monitoring.
  • Supports the Infection Control Department in collection, analyzing, monitoring, and trending of data.
  • Assists the Director in performing focused review if hospital acquired infections or clusters are identified.
  • Assists in the timely reporting of required indicators to NHSN.
  • Develops and maintains a daily database for all positive cultures and documents all applicable information in Soarian for Patient Care.
  • Works collaboratively with the QA/I Department with key state and federal initiatives.
  • Maintains expertise in areas of responsibility through participation in continuing education programs, as needed.
  • Develops and maintains a surveillance system for CAUTI, CLABSI, VAP, and reports them on a monthly basis.
  • Ensures appropriate reporting of problem, program activities, and findings to Director of Safety/Infection Control.
  • Assists the Infection Control Department in fulfilling NJ State and Federal Reporting requirements.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
