Qualifications:
POSITION SUMMARY:
Coordinates the Infection Control Program in collaboration with the interdisciplinary Safety/Infection Control Committee. Responsible for infection prevention, control and surveillance activities. Provides guidance regarding care and management of patients and/or employees with infections. When required, reports infections to the appropriate agencies. Surveys the hospital setting and inspects each area for potential problem areas related to cleanliness and sanitation, as well as areas of potential infection. Coordinates Performance Improvement plans that identify measure through aggregate data collection, assess and improve infection control processes within the facility.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Training:
  • Training in healthcare infection control programs, monitoring, and compliance preferred.
  • RN with a Bachelors Degree preferred

Experience:
  • Minimum of two (2) years clinical experience in an acute hospital or other related healthcare facility.
  • APIC Certification in infection control preferred. Upon employment, active APIC membership will be required.

Licensure/Certification:
  • Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina
  • Current CPR Certification
  • CPI Certification

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Displays written and verbal communication skills and is able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Displays good organizational skills.
  • Is familiar with various types of documentation maintained in a healthcare setting.
  • A working knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology, infectious disease, and aseptic technique to include standard/universal precautions.
  • Proficient in spreadsheet, word processing and database applications.
  • Is knowledgeable of, can interpret, and put into practice pertinent federal, state, local regulations as well as Joint Commission and related standards.
  • Can develop action plans, coordinate resources, and see tasks through to completion.
  • Can work independently and productively with little supervision.
  • Is knowledgeable about infection control activities in a healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrates good understanding of medical terminology.
  • Displays knowledge of ethical principles and compliance issues in a healthcare setting.
  • Able to work collaboratively, diplomatically, and with integrity in problem identification, projects management, and problem solving activities.
