BASIC FUNCTION:This position is responsible for the overall operation of the Special Care Unit (SCU) Department clinical patient care area, patient population, and assigned staff. Core staff-plan accountability for systems function, staff performance, and patient care in the SCU Department.

NATURE AND SCOPE:The individual in this position reports to the Vice President of Nursing/Chief Nursing Officer. This position works closely with the SCU Department staff, medical staff, and all nursing departments in order to provide quality patient care service.

The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategy of Samaritan Healthcare, personifying service and operational excellence. An intuitive understanding of Samaritan's Team Accountability and Respect System (STARS) is expected, including the creation and maintenance of the best patient, employee, physician, and student experience.

This position requires excellent leadership skills with a philosophy of creating a high-trust culture that empowers employees as individual contributors and fosters a strong team environment. Initiative, creativity, and outstanding written and verbal communications are required. Demonstrated ability to find creative solutions to complex problems.

Position Qualifications

• Certification in clinical area of expertise preferred.
• Prior experience/expertise for three years in clinical area relevant to unit patient population.
• Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (HCP) level to be completed within six (6) months of hire.
• BSN required or equivalent experience. MSN preferred or MS in Business or Healthcare Administration.
• Current Washington State RN license.
