POSITION SUMMARY:

The Ice Cream Maker Level III position is responsible for freezing and filling cups or freezing and forming bars in accordance with product specifications. This position includes operating, cleaning, and preventative maintenance of ice cream freezers, fillers, extruders, wire cutters, stick inserters, tamper, hardening tunnels, chocolate system, fruit feeders, variegate pumps, metal detectors, check weighers, coders, and barcode scanners. The operator is also responsible for the inclusion of particulates and variegates at specification levels and within quality guidelines. Accountable for overall production line performance: safety, quality, shrink, attainment, and line efficiency.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in troubleshooting of micro and environmental issues.
  • Responsible for CIP hookups.
  • Responsible for training new Ice Cream Maker Level III.
  • Set up, monitor, and maintain the ink coders and/or laser coders: verify codes; proper coding; adjust as necessary; and change code as necessary for product changeovers.
  • Disassemble, clean, and reassemble assigned parts and equipment.
  • Responsible for the flow of mix from univat to freezer to filler.
  • Know all product changeover requirements and procedures
  • Responsible for the operation of the metal detector, proper settings per flavor and calibrate, verify proper functioning and document as required.
  • Complete pre-start checklist
  • Perform physical and sensory evaluation of products.
  • Volumetric and time fill
  • Responsible for the operation of check weigher, proper settings per flavor, calibration, and document as required.
  • Complete appropriate documentation: HACCP; MCP; lot trace; start-up and shutdown check lists; control charts; code verification; production record; performance record; sanitation record; and downtime sheets.
  • Complete quality checks: cup weight; inclusion levels and distribution; metal detector; packaging verification; ingredient magnets; t-strainers; barcode scanner; cup coding; temperature exiting tunnel and other product specific requirements.
  • Observe machine operation to detect malfunction. Troubleshoot and make operator adjustments on freezer and fillers during production. Take corrective action as necessary.
  • Operate and clean assigned equipment.
  • Chocolate System: batch specifications per flavor; adjust temperature and level; document chocolate rerun usage.
  • Monitor fruit feeder; variegate; pumps (give directions to other employees as required).
  • Wash out univat, filler, and fruit feeders when changing flavors
  • Pull samples for lab.
  • Perform sanitation critical record checks.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Set-up pumps and fruit feeders to deliver add-ins at product specification levels
  • Perform SKU product changeovers during production
  • Make adjustments to ice cream freezer temperature, viscosity, air mixture, and flow of mix.
  • Safely and properly clear machine jams.
  • Complete quality checks: mix weight; bar weight; bar height; coating weight; stick placement; bar displacement; metal detector; packaging verification; ingredient magnets; t-strainers; in-line chocolate strainer; barcode scanner; carton coding and case coding.
  • Complete OPMs, inspect equipment for unusual or excessive wear.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Two years of related experience or one year of Ice Cream Maker I experience preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is required to work in an environment that may include exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, electricity, and vibrations. PPE and training are provided to eliminate/reduce the risk of harm. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.


The pay scale for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The pay scale disclosed below has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The pay scale for employees currently in this role is $26.58 per hour. A good faith estimate of the range the company will pay for successful applicants for the current opening is $26.58 per hour.
