The Hydraulic Systems Team is committed to improving our customers’ work through excellence in, durability, controllability, and reliability. As a Hydraulic System Development Engineer, you’ll develop technologies to support internally developed automation and robotics projects with a focus on hydraulic systems. In this role, you will be creating, modifying, and implementing component and system designs to address automation and robotic operating requirements of steering, braking, lifting, tilting, and operation of specialized attachments. This role will also collaborate with controls engineers to develop sensors and control methods to support operational requirements for automated and robotic trucks.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to overall larger multi-discipline team and multi-system project success across HYG product offerings.
  • Specify and develop sensing solutions to support robotic operation of the hydraulic system on lift trucks
  • Develop Hydraulic system features for robotic operation: steer-by-wire, e-braking, lifting, and tilting systems.
  • Be open minded and flexible to work effectively where project priorities shift in response to customer needs.
  • Perform calculations to meet defined system performance, efficiency, and quality objectives.
  • Creative, adaptable problem solving to accomplish consistent practical, meaningful results.
  • Technical ability to execute established procedures ensuring accuracy in design, testing and documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal resources and outside suppliers to meet reliability and durability requirements.
  • Integrate requirements into the creation and modification of designs for components, assemblies, and systems.
    • Perform calculations to meet defined system performance, efficiency, and quality objectives.
    • Collaborate with internal resources and outside suppliers to meet reliability and durability requirements.
  • Document designs through creation of requirements, drawings, engineering lists, change notices, and/or validation plans and test reports.
Qualifications:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Formal education: minimum of B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical emphasis)
  • Basic knowledge/skill in vehicle/automotive technology.
  • Experience working in team settings: collaboration within a team structure, supporting group decisions, demonstrating leadership within projects, and displaying team spirit
  • Basic CAD skills (modeling, drafting, and layouts), CAE skills, and analysis techniques.
Qualifications Preferred:
  • Simulation software, such as Automation Studio, Simcenter Amesim
  • Applied Fluid Power
  • Fluid Power Circuits and Controls
  • 0-2 years of experience in a product development role
  • Willingness to grow professionally in the field of fluid power
  • Specialist Certification(s) granted from Fluid Power Professional Societies such as IFPS or NFPA
  • Control systems / electro-hydraulics, sensors, data collection and common test methods for hydraulic systems
  • Creating and modifying schematic diagrams of hydraulic and electrical systems in mobile equipment.
  • Participation in Fluid Power Professional Societies such as IFPS or NFPA
  • Exposure and interest in industrial equipment (materials handling, automotive, agriculture or similar)
  • Industrial Hydraulic Controls
  • Industry standards and best practices related to hydraulic oil properties, cleanliness, and filtration.
  • Professional experience or completed course work with a fluid power focus, such as:
    • Applied Fluid Power
    • Fluid Power Circuits and Controls
    • Industrial Hydraulic Controls
    • Fluid Mechanics
  • Troubleshooting hydraulic system problems.
  • Knowledge of drafting practices, CAD skills, and engineering analysis tools, particularly with Siemens products.
  • Fluid Mechanics
